Andy & SueS
Thank you both for your interest. Andy , I have to reject your suggestion as I have already looked into the possibilities of the name appearing as Gibbons on a census.
SueS Yours is the conclusion I had come to as well. I also have a copy of the 1851 census with Henry Gribbon from Co Down & his wife Alice. But proving that Alice was their grandaughter is difficult at the moment Joan K

Long shot perhaps.

Do you know anything about Johns family. Could this be her with his parents?

Hi. I'm trying to trace the early years of Alice Gribbon, my great grandmother. She was born in Liverpool in 1866 to John Gribbon, a blacksmith & Catherine McCumiskey, who unfortunately died aged 24years within weeks of giving birth. I cannot trace Alice's whereabouts on the 1871 census, however on the 1881 census under the name of Gribbin, there is a child born in 1866 to a blacksmith called John, but it is named as Alfs a son. Anyone know if Alfs did exist or has this been written in error & it is indeed Alice.
Although the death cert. records Catherine as being John's wife , I have been unable to locate the marriage cert. Joan Kelly
