Hi Guys,

I am trying to find out some info on my Granparents siblings and parents. My nan Vera Stapleton, born March 1925 Married my Grandad Edward Morris c1921. I know they were both from London. How can i find out about their brothers and sisters and what their parents were called and when they were born.

This is my first attempt at my family tree so any advice would be good!

Good Afternoon

Best way I found ws to apply for the bith certificates. This then would give parents name and mothers maiden name. Then check the 1901 censu.

Hope this helps

regards
Pete

Have you got your grandparents marriage certificate?

You need to find that first which will give you both of their father's names.

You then need to look for your grandparent's birth certificates. These will give you their mother's maiden names. To find their siblings you then have to go through the complete birth index qtr. by qtr. looking for birth's with the correct surname and giving the same mother's maiden name. However the mother's maiden name is only added to the index after 1911, so any siblings born between the census in 1901 and 1911 will be more difficult to find.

The only way you can find out the names of their parents is to buy both of the birth certs

Here is Vera's birth reg'n info

AMJ 1925

STAPLETON, Vera M. MMN Waight
Mile End 1c/539

To order the cert, go to www.gro.gov.uk

The online 'form' has spaces for all the info above.

Remember to 'check' the box where it asks 'are GRO refs known'? It will cost £7.00

This looks like your grandmother's birth reference:-

Vera M. Stapleton, mother's maiden name Waight
June qtr. 1925, Mile End, 1c, 539

You can order this certificate from the General Regiter Office online at this address:-

www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates

Make sure you tick the yes box when it asks "Is the Full GRO Reference Known?" The certificate will then cost you £7.

Do you know what month your grandad was born to narrow down the qtr he was registered in. There are a lot of Edward Morris births and without something certain it is difficult to be sure of the right one.

Kath

It may help your search for the birth to know that Edward had two further initials..........J A

I have to go out, or I'd have a look myself
