I'm trying to trace my gg grandmother Alice Gray. She was born on 16 Feb 1859 in Hull. Her parents were George and Mary.

I have found her on the 1871 census.

I have found her on the 1881 census without her son working as a servant.

I haven't been able to trace her son on the 1881 census.

Alice married a James Hill and had two more children George & Joseph.

All three children were staying with her father George on the 1891 census.

But this one is listed as son to the Head of Household.

I have a copy of Frederick's birth cert - he was born on the 8 February 1880, 8 Wentworth Street, Drypool, Hull. Alices occupation was domestic servant. There are dashes where the father's name is.
I don't think the first record could be the one because it states Bradford as place of birth. i also found the second one however has different parents names.

Perhaps the individual giving the info. to the census taker didn't know exactly where Frederick was born and stated Bradford. How close is Bradford to Hull? One thing I learned doing genealogy for over 15 years is that not everything you see on earlier documents are accurate and not to assume the obvious. I have found numerous errors on census documents whether England or the U.S.

Don't think this can be the correct record. Alice was born 16 Feb 1859 - i have birth cert. She had her third son Joseph in 1886.

Bradford is about 65-70 miles away from Hull. From the details you posted earlier there was a Frederick born in Bradford around the same time.

I believe the Sculcoates record will be the correct one as that is the area she lived and the year of 1882 was passed to me by a relative. Her sons were born in 1884 &1886

There is a James Hill on the same page as the Sculcoates record.

I saw the Frederick Gray in Bradford in 1881 but if you look at the same family in 1891 it says that Frederick Gray is 'adopted son' so I discounted him
