Thanks for posting those, yes that is the census i was referring too, i was aware that the age was incorrect which was confirmed when i received her marriage certificate.
It is the birth that i was having problems locating, they were wed in Herts, the census says that she was born Brighton (i cannot find any births for Lena Ratcliff in Brighton, and have tried all spelling that i can think of) and there arent that many Lena Ratcliff's listed in other area births, the wedding cert would assume that she was born abt 1894, but i cannot find anything to match this.

I cant really see a prob? That cert ref seems ok to me? Is it because of the place of birth on the census that you are concerned?

Hi thanks to you all for your suggestions.
Lena Ratcliff married Frederick Harrington, Lena's father is confirmed as George Ratcliff on her marriage certificate.
As i have advised i have found what i believe to be them on the 1901 census she is down as Lena on this too, her parents on the census i have found are George Ratcliff and Alice Lockwood i believe.

I am unaware if her name could have been anything different because the family always have believed it to be Lena and on the marriage she is Lena.

I just dont know what else to try

could she have been called eleanor?

I have had similar problems and found that sometimes the birth was before the parents marriage.In these cases the birth will be under mmn.

I think you need to order the certificate that Potty has given the details for and ask them to check the fathers details. Date of birth on death registrations is often incorrect.

Thanks, on her death reg it states her date of birth as 1891, but my aunt who actually registered the death said she could have been slightly wrong as she was only young at the time and had never had to do anything like that before!?

Kensington registration district covered where the family are living in 1901. POB on census could be wrong.

You could try ordering the cert from the GRO with the father's name as a checking point. If it is the wrong father, they will not send the cert and only charge £3 or £4 for looking.

I have a subscription to ancestry but have now become fustrated with a brick wall that i have been trying to knock through for some time!!
My nans mother was named Lena Ratcliff, i have her marriage certificate which confirms that at the time of marriage in Hertfordshire in Feb 1923, Lena was 30years old, it also confirms that her fathers name was George Ratcliff!
The problem is i cannot seem to find a birth for her that fits...I have found what i believe to be her and her parents on the 1901 census...this says that she was born in Brighton. My mother always believed her surname to be Radcliff but i found this to be incorrect.. but now have become stuck with her birth, does anyone have any ideas or able to help further?
