Thank you both for that!
They both had sad tales to tell before their deaths - one a sailor who I think may have received a pension at 20? and the other losing her husband only a month before when the counterweight of a lift crushed him ....
Life was tough then I guess.

Its the old name for TB was very prevalant then.

my grt grandad died in 1884 of it aged 34 and on another side another grt grandad died in the 1880,s of it aged 49. a 15 cousin died in 1904 of it too.

the 6 months certified means they had had it for sixmonths and it was cerified by a doctor

I have just recieved 2 death certificates for ancestors who dies in the London area in 1865.
Both were quite young - 20 and 34. trouble is I caqnnot decifer the cause of death but both look similar. Both say 'Phthisis 6 months certified' . Can anyone tell me what this was - was it something common in that period in London?
