I am trying to find info about william neesham born 1806. He married someone called lydia marstom and also was married to someone called harriot evans. I know about his children but the problem I have is on the 1881 census it states he was born (b s) at sea so I don't know anything about who his parents were. He was a retired blacksmith in staffordshire. Any help on finding out who his parents were would be great. Thanks Dawn.

I am not sure when he married, but his first child was born in 1834.

Gary

This does look like this is his second marriage.

I wonder if it was a case of being asked where he was born in1881 and he said he was "at sea" i.e. he didn't know! After all he was 75 years old.

Gary Report 29 Nov 2007 15:48

On other people's trees that I am in contact with some say william was registered as being born in bristol others say stepney as you have got above but on the census it says at sea could it be possible that his mother was on her way from Ireland and the boat docked at bristol first so she had to register his birth then and the boat went on to london so she reregistered him there. I don't know if this is possible or am I barking up the wrong tree as this could explain what the b and s mean on the census. Dawn.

Can I ask a question why has the info that was sent been deleted off as I have been replying and answering the questions asked as soon as I could?

Gary,

This may be your family in 1841. It's possible that William may have not been sure whether it was London or Staffordshire where he was born during the 1881 cenus and could have just mentioned "at sea" being funny!

Gary,

Did you have William's Death record?

England & Wales, FreeBMD Death Index: 1837-1983
about William James Neesham
Name: William James Neesham
Estimated birth year: abt 1807
Year of Registration: 1886
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Age at Death: 79
DISTRICT: Wolverhampton
County: Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands

I couldn't tell with all these deleted posts--don't know what happened.

Gary I would check the two areas of London and Wolverhampton to find his birth certificate or baptism record--then you may find out who is parents were and possibly the actual place of birth.
