That's great. Thank you so much for your help. It looks as if I was correct about Betty's remarriage.

Would you be able to supply me with their places of birth, relationships ( I am perplexed about the 1871 as there are 2 Robert Maxwells) and occupations please.

I am very interested in the Hays in 1841, as I think that they are Betty's parents. Would it be possible to know if they say that they are born in the county, does William have an occupation and are they living at the same address or next door.

I would value any help in finding the Maxwell family on the 1841 census (see below). I think that Robert died in 1846 but I would appreciate it if anyone would look for the family in 1851 to confirm this theory.

I believe that Robert’s wife Betty remarried and if anyone could find her and her new husband William Turner on the 1851/61 and 1871 census I would be grateful.

I believe that the couple got married in Crosscanby Cumberland in 1832. The children (that I know of so far) are:
Thomas bp 1833 Maryport
Mary bp 1834 Maryport
William Hayes bp 1838 Maryport
Robert bc 1838 in Rochdale Lancashire.

In 1881 Robert Maxwell (age 43) and his mother Betty TURNER (age 67) are in the same household (she is a widow) in Crosscanonby, Cumberland. I assume that Betty remarried but it is interesting that her mother was a Betty Turner who married a William Hays. There is a marriage record for a Betty Maxwell in 1846 in Cockermouth, Cumbria, Cumberland, on the same page there is a William Turner (a possible 2nd marriage.) There is also a death in the same year and area of Robert Maxwell.

I have Thomas (with his family) and Robert together on the 1891 census living in Crosscanonby, Maryportand.
