I have been looking for years for my g-grandad...but with few results.

His army record says he was born in Carrigaline in the parish of Kinsale in the county of Cork in 1873, but there is no record of him anywhere in Cork! He joined the Cork Royal Garrison Artillery in 1891 aged 18 years & 2 months. He married Ellen Cornish in West Ham 28/12/1899. On the marriage cert his father is named as Thomas Ahern, a baker by trade. He lived in East Ham, Woolwich, & Plumstead, & died in Bexleyheath in 1942, so it's a mixture of Essex & Kent counties.

If anyone could help with any information it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

On the 1881 census there is a Thomas Ahern from Cork on a Royal Navy Vessel aged 27, but it says he is single, so don't know if he is your man's father or not.
