Please can anyone help me ?!!!

I am trying to find a Mary o'brien born 30th November 1936 in Worcester. Her parents were GERTRUDE ALDRED ( nee Petts) from Derbyshire, who had 5 daughters with her husband Alfred before moving to Worcester. There she had 3 sons, then my mother ( who was put in a childrens home at birth). I dont know what happened to Alfred, i can find no death record. However by 1936 GERTRUDE had a daughter Mary with a man named James O'brien. The birth was registered twice.. once as Mary Aldred and also as Mary o'brien.... why is this ? They were living at ? Tunnel Hill , Worcester.
Any help really really appreciated as my mother may still have a half sister out there somewhere!
