If you share:

1) The name of your mother-in-law
2) her maiden name and first married name
3) Date she divorced (ish)
4) Where did she live when you think she may have re-married? and how old was she?

Then I suspect a few of us may be able to help - any clues you have help!

I'm not sure why you need her birth certificate in order to ascertain whether she married for a second time. If her name was a common one and you have no idea where she could be, it could be a big task to find another marriage. You will need to trawl the marriage registers from 1975 onwards.

Same for finding half brothers or sisters, once you have a second marriage for you, you will have to trawl the birth indexes for children with that surname and a corresponding mothers maiden name.

For divorce records, I'm pretty sure you would need to know it happened.

Hi All,

Please can someone clarify that once i obtain my husbands mothers birth certificate, I will be able to ask someone for help to see if she has remarried following the divorce of my father-in-law ?

Is there anywhere you can obtain details of a divorce, even if you dont know much about dates, just a rough guide and rough location of residence at the time ?

Assuming a second marriage has taken place, should I then be seeking information from electoral roles to locate present whereabouts ? Any second marriage would have been some time after 1975.

Am I thinking on the right track or is there an easier way ?

What about additional children, is there any way to find out if there are half brothers and sisters ?

At present I dont have the mothers accurate date of birth only the year, but once the birth certificate arrives I am hoping this will help. Once I figure out where to search next of course, with your tips !!

I feel I cant do it without you all.

Thanks
Lesley
