Debbie

Debbie Report 12 Dec 2007 21:20

lol who was hannah before she was a Handley then Smith

Debbie

Debbie Report 12 Dec 2007 21:16

CONFUZZLED !!!!!!!
There are 2 '51 searches , 1 for Hannah & 1 for Charles ............. hold on ding ding !
Right so are we saying Hannah & Charles married the day after the census
Hannah had filled her form in in her own right with her & her children omitting Charles as they were not yet married
BUT
Charles filled his out but putting Hannah on his therefore placing Hannah on 2 forms but being the same person ????????

Looking at the image for 1851 I think that Mary is 10 (it's not very clear) which then gives Charles in1841

Charles Smith
Age: 20
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1821
Gender: Male
Where born: Warwickshire, England

Civil Parish: Nuneaton
Hundred: Hemlingford (Atherstone Division)
County/Island: Warwickshire
Country: England

Registration district: Nuneaton
Sub-registration district: Nuneaton
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Charles Smith 20
Mary Smith 25
Mary Smith 6 Mo

Source Citation: Class: HO107; Piece 1127; Book: 21; Civil Parish: Nuneaton; County: Warwickshire; Enumeration District: 22; Folio: 33; Page: 25; Line: 11; GSU roll: 464170.

So Mary and John are going to be Charles' children.

The census in 1851 was taken on March 30th so Charles and Hannah would not have been married - looks like Hannah filled in the form correctly and then Charles put her on again.

OK, now I understand Sarah Handley's mother Hannah married Charles Smith in 1851 and that's why the Smiths were the grandparents of little Eliza. Also explains why Sarah and Robert were daughter and son-in-law of the Smiths on the 61 census.
So Sylvia in Canada your theory #2 was correct!

Sorry,

I have to go to bed!!!

its almost midnight here, and I have to be up about 6:30am

Ouch!!

I won't be on until late tomorrow afternoon, but I'll look in to see if anyone has solved the problem.

I have two suggestions

1. Sarah Smith married ?? Handley then married Lapworth

2. Sarah is the child of Hannah Smith, who was a Handley before she married Charles

But I can't find any of those marriages!!

Debbie

Debbie Report 12 Dec 2007 07:45

yes Sylvia
In the info I have from a family member Robert Lapworth did marry Sarah Ann Handley

There are SMITHS in the next 2 generations up - Eliza Smith married Michael Lapworth , then Eliza's parents are James and Sarah nee Alton/AULTON(we think)
Deb X
Maybe need to find Eliza'a siblings maybe that will help ?
