I DO have a connection to this somewhere AND,I sem to remember, to the name French.

Another one ,could this be Eliza's brother William?
1861 census
Molehill Green-Felstead
William Wood b1816,Felstead
Mary Wood b1821,Finchingfield
Rebekah Wood b1849,Felstead
John Wood b1851,Felstead
Sarah Wood b1854,Felstead
Mary Ann Wood b1857,Felstead
Eliza Wood b1859,Felstead
maybe he named his 2 youngest girls after his wife or his mum & sister!!
1871 census-Peeks Hall,Felstead
william wood,54
rebeckah wood,22
mary ann wood,14
eliza wood,13
elizabeth wood,6
1881-census-Peeks Hall,Felstead
william wood,65
rebecca wood,31
then i found this
william french,39
rebecca french,42
emily french,9
george french,7
>>>william wood,75,lodger
could this be eliza's brother & his daughter??

Another twist!!!
Look at this!!!!
70 Pye Green,Felstead
Thomas Wood,head,42
Harriet Wood,wife,41
Mary Ann Wood,daug,8
Susannah Wood,4
this "Wood" family are at the top of the 1881 census for William Wood b1816(Elizas brother)
then underneeth william & daughter rebeckah
75 Milch Hill,Felstead
William Wood,head,35
Eliza wood,wife,31,Littleleighs
William Wood,son,8,Littleleighs
Hannah Wood,daugh,2,Felstead
Thomas Wood,son,9mths,Felstead

SOooo Dea the plot thickens, wots ya theory????

Well done Lisa!

It looks well worth following!!

I will take a proper look when 'little one' has gone!

Dea x

P.S. - Can't look just now but I am sure that address you have found - Melville Terrace is the same as I had found either Emily or Eliza working on another census, - OR maybe it was even Robert??

I KNOW I have seen it - will look later if you haven't found where I mean.

Dea x

Update added****************I found the address I was thinking of but it was not the same - It was Emily Wright at Malvern Terrace Islington - close but not the same!.

However, - you have found the correct Eliza - I was not certain about my one because the place of birth was Averly ??

The one you have found is, I believe correct, and the story still all fits!.

was mooching through census & saw this, what do you think?
1861 census
St Pancras Parlimenary borough-Marlybone
William H Wright 37
Katherine Wright 28
William T Wright son 6
Frederick J Wright son 4
>>>Eliza Wood,house servant,30,Felstead
is this just a huge coinsidence or is there a connection???

Apologies, I am confusing 'myself' now!!

I did put Charles for her father on my explanation post (I have edited it now)!

It should have read 'William'.

I got his name from the christenings of William + Mary's children which I posted on page 1 of this thread.

Must go - grand-daughter on her way, but I will be back later.

Sorry to confuse you further.

thanks Dea,one more thing, where did you find Charles,Elizas father?? regards Lisaxx

Dea

Dea Report 29 Aug 2008 09:37

Yes, I do ! (have a theory).

It is wrong ! - Ignore it.!

First of all, the person they are trying to link her to is an unmarried schoolmistress from Kent - aged 30 !!!

Practically the same age as Eliza - there is NO WAY she could be her mother !!

Eliza is clearly entered at the very bottom of the househiold as a servant!

It has been transcribed incorrectly and should be ignored.

Hi Dea,been going through you info,im really confused now!!!
if you look at1861 census for Emily Wright you can see Eliza at top of page ,if you view that record it showss Eliza as having an alternate name!!
Eliza Fiveash??it says she is a servant but yet it also says her mother is the head of the household.
what do you make of that!! kind regards Lisa(i'll bet you have a theory,)

I have found them added on your tree as photo's but I can only see them as a small photo which I cannot read - I can't seem to open them up from there so saved them to my computer.

However when I open them in there and enlarge them I lose relolution and can't read them from there either.

Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks,

With regard to 'the father' - Robert Turner.

I have posted two 'possible' candidates on the 1851:

(Remember, Eliza had the baby in 1850 and she was in Islington, Middx. in 1851!!)

Both are servants - One is working in Essex, so Eliza could have had the baby with him and THEN moved to Islington,

OR:

The other Robert - is working in Whitechapel, Middx. but was born in Braintree, so he is also possible - he could have
been in Braintree when the baby was conceived, or it could have happened in the Middlesex area after they both moved there?

She would then have 'nipped home' to have the baby, left him there and returned to her job in Islington?

Hope this helps.

Have to go now as grand-daughter is coming very soon.

Will be back later.

Dea Report 27 Aug 2008 08:23

O.K.,

IF I have the correct Eliza, she was born in Felstead c1830

In 1841 she is living in Felstead with widowed mother Mary and several brothers and sisters.
Her father William had died by then.

In 1851 she is working as a Servant in Braintree - there is another servant there also - Emily Wright from Bocking,
who I believe could be related, but certainly they seem to have become friends.

Note... Elizabeth Young who is looking after Robert on 1851 was born Elizabeth Wright!

In 1861 - Emily Wright had moved to Islington where she was working as a servant and a couple of doors away an Eliza Wood
was also working as a servant so it looks as though they remained near to each other.

All the census details, christenings, marriages etc to prove this I have posted above.

Does it make more sense now?
