I've become a bit stuck with researching my family history. My Great Grandfather, a Henry Albert Young was born in 1906. However I can't continue research because I have no idea where in England he was born. I have his marriage certificate which shows his father is a William Young, but he is down as 'deceased' (so he must have died somewhere inbetween 1906 and 1933).

I have found two Henry Albert Youngs on freebmd born at the right time, however even if I order a birth certificate and his father is a William how would I know that this is the right person? (William Young is quite a common name). I am also aware that not all the records have been input on freebmd, so it may not be either.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Many Thanks
Lloyd

Does the marriage cert give the occupation of William?

What are the witnesses names because they could be family?

I feel very silly now, should have looked there!

One of the wtinesses does indeed look like a relative - Ernest George Young. I'll certainly have a look into it, and see if I can find anything out.

Unfortunately the certificate just says 'Deceased' under the occupation for William

Thanks!

Have you looked for possible matches on the 1911 census?

It's free to search but pay to view.

I have, but there doesn't seem to be any Henry Albert Youngs born around 1906 :S

Where did Henry marry please?
What is his age on the marriage and do you know his exact date of birth to be sure he was born in 1906 and not just either side of it?
Do youknow when and where he died?

Lloyd

When checking any census - remember that less is more. Try searching for him without the middle name. I know sometimes it's recorded but in most cases it's not, or maybe just an initial.

The H in Head/Dead Cowman is the same as the start of "Mary"that isnt Mary as its a son.

And it isnt "at sea"either, its ,,,,,on farm...

Edit, got over excited there,he WAS born at sea,he worked on a farm, read the columns correctly viv!

Wow! Thanks alot everyone, it's greatly appreciated!!! It's looking quite probable that this is the right family, and it looks like we've (well, you!) solved it.

Sorry that I couldn't answer your question earlier Vivienne. He was married 2nd December 1906 in St Andrew's parish church, Rugby, Warwickshire to Florence Mary Colledge. His age was 27 and his occupation was a bus driver. Sorry if this has come a bit late. As for his death we're not sure of an exact year, but it was in the 1970's.

It's very interesting that William is born at sea. And does that say Mary Young, SON on the census?

Very many thanks,
Lloyd

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 22 Dec 2009 00:05

It has been transcribed as Mary but its not Mary on the image..
And I dont really think Mary would be a son !

But he couldnt have married in 1906 as that was about when he was born !!
I think you mean 1933........................;)

Where did he die?do youknow?

Lloyd

Lloyd Report 22 Dec 2009 00:14

Sorry, me getting too excited! Yes, he was married in 1933, not 1906. He died in Rugby, Warwickshire.

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 22 Dec 2009 00:20

Nope, hes not showing on the death indexs, well I cant find him,I was hoping to find him as it should have had his birth date on it.

Lloyd

Lloyd Report 22 Dec 2009 00:25

Ah, well it's definately Rugby. Not sure then, do the death indexes go up to the 1970's? It would be useful, as it would (hopefully) tie him in with the family that we've found.

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 22 Dec 2009 00:33

Death indexs go from 1837 to 2006,but you have to be with Ancestry to search them easily from about 1930 on.
Maybe he has been missed off for some reason when they were transcribing.

Lloyd

Lloyd Report 22 Dec 2009 00:35

Ah, unfortunately we've got no living relatives to ask. All my mother can remember was that it was late 1970's. Could it be possible that it was recorded in a different district for some reason? Coventry maybe?

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 22 Dec 2009 00:41

Rugby in Warwickshire is it?????
I am rubbish at geog but you are as bad it would seem,or else Ancestry are !!
