LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Dec 2014 20:42

I think OH will do the decorating, even though he said he was going to have someone do it next time

I am going to try and phone my sister, so may be a while :-D Unless she isn't there of course

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 14 Dec 2014 20:22

Then he will be turned away. I have explained that I visitors.

Next time you need any decorating done, I can send him up to you :-D

He is a little strange looking - six foot three, very thin, with a pony tail

apparently has a lot of hippie friends :-D.

vegetarian, hears weeds scream when he pulls them up, cried when his dad felled a big tree in the garden, and all the rest you know about :-D

LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Dec 2014 20:14

Oh well at least it will be done before Christmas. what is the betting he turns up tomorrow :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 14 Dec 2014 20:06

I do sometimes have a bowl of porridge made in the microwave. Today I didn't bother thinking I'd wait till lunch, then he turned up without warning and took over the kitchen.
He is a good decorator, but my goodness, you suffer for the privilege.

I'm sure he is mad :-D.

He has washed the walls, including the tiles, and the kitchen does look good. After all, it hasn't been done in over a year, so was well overdue.

Had I been expecting him I would have been more organised with meals etc.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Dec 2014 19:56

Why don't you have breakfast? Silly man, it is the most important meal of the day

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 14 Dec 2014 18:12

It takes him hours to do a job because he keeps coming to the lounge door talking the most incredible rubbish, and bending my ears.

Well I am off to find something for dinner now - haven't eaten for nearly 24 hours :-(

I've got a pack of 24 AA batteries here if that's any use to you :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Dec 2014 17:28

Oh dear, I hope you get something to eat soon. You should have popped next door and asked Taffy to give you a biscuit today. How has it taken all day to wash down a couple of walls? I could have done it in no time at all

OK what have you done with all my AA batteries? I need seven to finish the decorations and there aren't any. I will have to venture out tomorrow to get some

The plans of mice and men :-(

I had planned to tidy up today ready for tomorrows visit from the Duchess's sister, and nephew. Just hoover, dust, that kind of thing.

At 12 o'clock the decorator arrived to ask could he start preparing the kitchen for decorating, which basically meant washing down the ceiling and walls.
Well I hadn't prepared by putting stuff away or anything. I explained this but he said it didn't matter - he would move stuff around.

He is still here, so the kitchen is out of bounds - I'm starving, not having had anything to eat since dinner last night.
Did manage to get in twice to make a coffee.

I have explained that he can't come tomorrow because I have visitors.

Also I wanted to visit the Duchess this afternoon, as I won't be able to for a couple of days this week, although her sister will visit her tomorrow.

Oh well - the kitchen will be ready for painting when he does come back.

It has been a foul day here - very dark and wet.

My daughter phoned from John Lewis's restaurant in Southampton.
Grand daughter arrives at Gatwick this afternoon from Toulouse, then travelling down to Southampton, and they will all go home tomorrow.

I'm pleased that you have your tree up, despite all the hum bugging :-D
Things that come out at Christmas do hold treasured memories.
I have baubles and things, bough in Canada and the States. Nicer than the ones you could buy here at the time.
I have given the box of twenty wooden toys that hang in the tree to my daughter. They are rather special, and we've had them forever.
Of course they are all upstairs this year, so I haven't seen them. I may get my daughter to bring some things down at the weekend.

I do wish this silly man would go home

My new tree does look nice in the window.
Nothing like my usual one, but it'll do. :-0

LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Dec 2014 16:23

You have shamed us into putting the tree up. OH is bah humbugging all over the place. It is well on the way, but I felt a coffee break coming on.

Getting the baubles out always reminds me of our travels. We have some heavy glass drops still in their Macy's box from New York and some red glass chandelier drops from the flea market in Paris. I also have some very nice glass icicles from ten minutes down the road

Some of the nicest bits I have were bought by mum in her latter years. There was one garden centre which had a nice restaurant which she liked to go to. They always had a very good Xmas display with some nice things as well as the usual container load from China. She would wait until the sales in the NewYear and get some real bargains. The others didn't want them, so I kept the nicest bits, it is good to have her things around me at this time of year. I have a tatty tinsel star which was always on our tree at home. I still haven't forgiven her for throwing the fairy away because she said it was tatty :-(

Hope that you enjoyed the bacon butty :-)

but we don't greasy finger marks on the newspaper please.

It is very wet here, and quite dark, but also a shade warmer.

I have a day of tidying up and dusting, in readiness for my visitors tomorrow. :-0

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 14 Dec 2014 09:40

Good morning thread.

I am awaiting the arrival of the bacon butty as I type Tec :-)

It is warmer outside, the White frost of yesterday has gone, but it still looks pretty parky, so I think there will be some in depth reading of the Sunday newspaper going on this morning

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 13 Dec 2014 22:45

I'm off to bed now - the heating's gone off,

Sleep well Linda - keep warm and enjoy the bacon butty :-D

Goodnight,
Tec

I have to switch the router on and off. Some days it is fine, tonight it has been a nuisance. Oh well, it exercises my knee going to sort it out

Time for bed, so I will say goodnight to you

I hope the upside down people are having a good day and that Sylvia is having a good journey

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 13 Dec 2014 22:36

Mine went off the other day, then I got all these strange messages from BT, didn't touch anything, though they told me to. Suddenly it all came right again. :-( without me doing anything

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Dec 2014 22:33

Grr, my internet went off again

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 13 Dec 2014 22:25

It was very dangerous - steam came out of the kitchen tap, and there was no mixer tap.

Modern basins are quite fragile because they are hollow. I've got a good old fashioned solid one. Larger than ordinary, that I bought at auction in good condition.

The one that came with the bathroom suite was silly, only suitable for a cloakroom.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Dec 2014 22:18

Gosh, that sounds incredibly dangerous.

I cracked our wash basin, but that was when I knocked OH's shaving brush off the shelf. I didn't realise that modern basins are hollow and only made from a thin layer of clay

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 13 Dec 2014 22:12

I remember when we came here we only had an ancient solid fuel Rayburn to heat the water.
That got so hot that one day I cracked the washbasin in the bathroom. :-(

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Dec 2014 22:10

It is easy to alter and I don't want to scald my hands on the tap water

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 13 Dec 2014 22:07

Sounds like he tweeked it up a bit, but you should be able to adjust it. Otherwise you'll have a huge gas bill.

Mine is a touch cool, but it'll do
