I have almost finished The Sunflower Forest by Torey Hayden. This is a great book, I really don't want it to end. A 17 year old girl, Lesley, growing up in America with her 9 year old sister and her parents. Her mother is Hungarian and, for some reason 'not normal'. Lesley often has to stay home from school to look after her mother who has 'spells'. The mother tells her stories of life in Hungary and Germany in the war, how she was part of the Lebensborn programme and ended up in Ravensbrusk, how she went to Wales after the war and eventually to America. Then there is a tragedy. Lesley goes to wales to follow her mother's trail.

A beautifully written book with good characters, a great story and wonderful descriptions. Can thoroughly recommend it.

I've started Citadel by Kate Mosse. It's the third part of her trilogy, and I'm hoping it's going to be as good as the others.

Hallo again everyone. Have read a few books in recent weeks:

The Six Wives of Henry VIII by Alison Weir. This is a purely factual book researched from mostly primary sources. I found it really interesting. I knew some basic facts about his wives but this book really "fleshed out" their stories for me.

Shakespeare by Bill Bryson. I had read this biography before but it was some while ago so I thought I would re-read it. I like Bill Bryson's style and this book was very readable. What really comes over is how little we actually know about Shakespeare.

The Fifth Elephant by Terry Pratchett. Again this was a re-reading. I've read pretty much all of Pratchett and generally prefer his earlier books but I quite enjoyed this.

I'm about to start on Kate Morton's The Secret Keeper. I've never read any of her books but I saw this in the library and seemed to remember it being mentioned some time ago on this thread so I thought I'd have a go at it.

Finished "The Devil Rides Out" by Paul O'Grady.

Am now reading Roy Chubby Brown's autobiography :-D

Morning Book/Kindleworms :-).I have given up on The 100 Year Old Man who climbed out of the window and Disappeared. Yes I know it has had good reviews etc but I didn't enjoy reading it and don't want to waste my reading time! I think after The Man who Went round Ireland with a Fridge,I was looking for something similar to make me laugh out loud. Not so..

So, as a change from chortling, I am in the middle of reading a very dark, psychological murder mystery. 'Sharp Objects' by Gillian Flynn who also wrote 'Gone Girl'. It is about Camille, a reporter who is sent from her newspaper in Chicago to cover two murders in her home town in Missouri. She is a deeply damaged and flawed heroine and when you meet her mother and other family members, you can understand why. A great read, so far, don't want it to end!

I am really enjoying The Unseen by Katherine Webb at the moment.

Last week I finished reading her latest book, A Half Fogotten Song and I still have The Legacy to go.

I bought them all to read on holiday but don't break up until next Wednesday but i couldnt wait and at present am in danger if having read them all before then !!

At first they seem a bit steamy, but after you've read a couple of them you want to get on with the story :-D

l'm reading free on my kindle books by Nicky Charles...have read "Bonded" will start "The Mating" this evening. Very strange but brilliant, you need to read "Bonded" first. Nicky does'nt charge for her books but aks that you donate something to a charity of your choice. Writing is her hobby and she loves it :-)

At the moment i am reading "the Wheel of Fortune" by Susan Howatch (of Penmarric fame.)
Covering the years 1913 -1966 and afterwards It tells the story of the Godwin family living in the Gower in South Wales.

In six sections, with a different family member relating what happened through thier eyes.

A long book (over one thousand pages). but worth reading. At the moment I am reading about 1939-1952, which is told by Harry (he starts writing in 1939 but tells of some of his earlier memories too).

Some peoples stories overlap, it is interesting to hear about an event from (at least) two points of view.
