Florence61 Report 11 Jun 2023 13:37

Afternoon all.

Well it came at 7am this morning......the rain.

Yes after 2 months, the wet stuff finally returned and the grass has been well and truly watered. Not torrential but the steady drizzle which is what we needed as this type of rain actually seeps into the ground. A heavy downpour just runs off. The plants have had a good drink so no watering for us to do today.

Midges out in force in their armies so def no windows open here unless Im on a death wish lol.

AnnG, I have seen bits on the news about the annual cheese rolling and it looks so dangerous! Why on earth would anyone want to take part?

I have just finished the ironing and the basket once again is empty. Love to see an empty basket!

Tomorrow I'm at the hospital for my knee jags and have to be ready from 8am for the ambulance to collect me so a very early rise for me. My appointment is at 10.30 so will need to leave here by 9.30 anyway.

Mums flat goes live on Tuesday after all this time. Oh my the paperwork involved was horrendous. What we use to call "the specs" on a property is now called " a brochure"....fancy words for the same thing! Just hope it sells as prices are falling weekly.

Well left overs from buffet yesterday and that means...no cooking, yay a day off :-D

No thunderstorms here, has anyone else got them?

Afternoon evryone.
Hope the jabs are not too painful for you Florence, I had my B12 last week & it really hurt, don't know what the nurse did to make it so unpleasant as I don't usually feel it !!
I hope she's not back for my next one in 12 weeks time.!!

Not the best of days bit dull, not sunshine but not cold.
Our son in law came over around 11-00am & made a much needed start on cutting the VERY long grass from 2 large areas of the garden, he hadn't been going long when the rain came on !

However it didn't come to anything & so he was able to get the lot cut thank goodness.
Whilst son in law was doing that our daughter had started to fill up the water bowie from the hosepipe, should keep me going re watering the nwest plants if the rain doesn't start again.

I have made Broth for todays meal, it's nearly time to have a wee taster, lol.

Joan.

Lots of thunder and lightning here last night, about 10.30.
Absolutely torrential rain for a while, and also more normal rain later.

I love that smell of rain on very dry ground.

But very localised - the village 5 miles away only had a light shower.

And as you say, Florence, the midges are out with a vengeance today.

AnninGlos Report 11 Jun 2023 17:27

Hope all goes well tomorrow Florence.

Yes the cheese rolling is mad and dangerous but it attracts contestants from all over the world. Some people like danger. The female who won the ladies race was actually unconscious when she reached the bottom as she fell so she was awarded the prize and carted off to hospital. as it is no longer official (but sort of allowed) the emergency services are not in attendance but they do park up within easy reach as they know they could be needed. I think the hill is steeper than it looks which comes as a surprise to people and it is not mown so is a bit rough. we have viewed it from the top several times as it is close to one of the walks we used to do. It is actually fenced off during the year.

We have not had any thunder but have had a few quite heavy showers of rain which has perked the garden up it was 22 degrees and cloudy all day until 4.30 when the sun came out. it is still 22 and very hot in the sun. The rain pulled down a rambling rose with the weight of the roses so I have had to cut some branches off.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 11 Jun 2023 17:55

Lucky people having rain, it has been very hot here.
It was the monthly town litter pick, so OH. and I went, but left Eve behind. It was scorching, so we only lasted an hour, we still picked lots of litter.

We are having a bbq instead of Sunday dinner, I don’t really like them, but they do. The whole house reeks of smoke now

Florence61

Florence61 Report 11 Jun 2023 19:02

Well we are a little concerned as just over the hills from us has been a horrid yellow haze of thick smoke and we think the moor is on fire!! if it comes over the hills and heads this way, could be a dangerous situation so watching out the window through my binoculars.

Thankfully cant se any flames just a thick haze. Nothing on local news site yet but keep checking.

The earlier rain we had has brought out my roses and all the plants have also perked up, just wish it would start raining again just now.

Back later with any updates

it is very humid here, but with zero percent chance of rain. It says it will be thirty degrees tomorrow

Well I messaged my neighbour 2 doors along and she thinks its thick fog :-S

It is now very dense but not any nearer, so now confused??

If it was like the haar we get, it would have travelled down towards us by now but it hasnt. Shall just cast an eye until we go to bed and hope for the best,

Florence61

Florence61 Report 12 Jun 2023 13:05

Afternoon all
Well it turned out to be very dense fog not smoke! Was thick fog still when i got up at 6am.

I have returned from hospital around 12 and my left knee has been bleeding badly since. I have had to change the dressing 5 times as was soaked with blood.

So I was on the mobile when I suddenly looked down to see my whole leg covered in blood, what a mess! So again I cleaned it up and another dressing but im pressing hard on the wound to hopefully stop it. I'm on blood thinners which is the cause but its nearly 3 hours since i got the jag!!.
I put my long shorts on but now the hem is soaked in blood as are my flip flops.

Anyway, I cleaned it all and think its beginning to slow down hopefully.

"Bone man" was in a good mood today at least and by tomorrow should feel relief so that's the upside of the jags.

Aside from that, it is warm and the sun is starting to peep through the clouds at long last.

Hope everyone else well and ok today.

I'm in need of a drink of something and a sandwich now!

Oh my Florence, that sounds serious, should you maybe have it looked at ?

Nice day here, sunshine & heat, & thankfully a wee breeze.
I spent a good hour in the garden this morning & tidied up the flower borders some more, got rid of the dead Daffie leaves that had built up at the back of the borders & in the way of the Roses, fortunately they were easliy removed using the rake, no bending, can't bend anyway, lol.

Just had an automated phone call from SEEN elec company to warn us that bad weather is on it's way, & we may lose power !!!

Thanks for that, it was supposed to start at midday (call was at 1-00pm) & told to charge up my mobile phone ( i don't have one) to make sure to have plenty of bottled water available, (don't use it) & can't get to the shops to get some ! !

And as we are on their prioriry list we can phone for support !! LOLOL, the only support that we get are updates re the power being off & how long it might be before being restored.
As a result of getting that call I am now worried as to what might happen, I was aware of thundering & lightening going on in parts of the UK but I would rather not be told it's coming to us, we can't do anyting about it, but the call has scared me silly !!

Joan.

Gwyn in Kent Report 12 Jun 2023 13:37

Gosh Florence, that sounds excessive bleeding :-0
Maybe ask a medical opinion if it doesn't stop bleeding soon.
I would try to keep your leg rested /elevated and have a quiet afternoon.
I hope everything calms down and you soon feel the benefits from the treatment.

Perhaps in view of this happening, your doctor would advise stopping your blood thinner for a couple of days prior to further treatment.?
That's what I had to do before an operation or dental treatment, but only with medical advice.

Really warm here again and there are deep cracks in the grass in the back garden due to lack of rain.... No thunderstorms for us, yet.
I don't like extremes of weather, so am finding plenty to do in doors with the curtains drawn to make shade.

Florence61

Florence61 Report 12 Jun 2023 14:13

Well, all is back to normal thank goodness! Yes Gwyn I did stop the blood thinners before when I had surgery for something else so maybe next time(in 6 months) I shall speak with GP beforehand about stopping them for 2 days.

Honestly, I was running out of dressings and only had toilet roll to hold tight as kitchen rolls on order and not arrived yet what a carry on.

Joan , poor you getting that message making you all worried. Just as a precaution, can your daughter get you some bottled water just in case? Even if you dont use it, it will keep ages as an emergency. Still foggy here but havent seen any warnings of bad weather. Like you we are on the priority list as daughter has Insulin in the fridge.

But what can they do to support us anyway? We have cool bags and some ice packs in freezer which could keep insulin chilled. Its ok for 12 hours after which it cant be used and we have 12 pens in the fridge of different sorts, one for day/rrapid and one for night.

God I think I heard a loud rumble of thunder...eeeek off to fill the kettle just in case.
Back in a minute or 2.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 12 Jun 2023 14:26

I am glad the bleeding has stopped Florence, but it does sound as if you need to stop the tablets before the next injection.
I was glad to read that it was fog, not a fire.
It is very hot and humid here, we haven’t had any rain at all and aren’t forecast for any I went to my slimming class this morning and then sorted the recipes out for the week. I then went to Tesco and Lidl to buy everything. There were a few things I couldn’t get, so I am improvising tonight. I wanted trout, but have morphed that into tuna steaks. Tesco didn’t have any frozen soy beans, I am hoping that there might be some in the freezer, if not I have some baby B-road beans, so they will have to stand in. I couldn’t get any puy lentils either, but I don’t need them until the end of the week, so hopefully the deli in the market square will have them. I hate it when I think I am organised for the week, but then can’t get the ingredients

I am intending to do nothing for the rest of the afternoon as it is too hot

Florence61

Florence61 Report 12 Jun 2023 14:29

Im back, not sure what that loud rumble was but nothing since.

Joan I looked at the Power Track Map and there is a power cut in the Banchory area and also on Isle of Skye ,Inverness and Orkney Can't see any warnings for bad weather either. However I'm guessing that warning probably covers Northern Scotland which is a big area!

I did notice though on my travels today, the main river is really low and the lochs are even lower showing stones that you wouldn't normally see, all quite worrying and unless we get some heavy rain soon, we will be on a hosepipe ban.

Think I shall add bottled water to my shopping list just to be prepared for emergencies and also more plasters lol. We ran out last night of washing up liquid and daughter is on way home and by golly if she has forgotten, I will strangle her :-D
:-D :-D

Well a quiet afternoon so paperwork can be done sitting at the table.

Take care all and Joan, try not to worry.

lighteningmaps.org

Had a look on there and there is activity around Inverness and south of there. Quite interesting as it also covers Europe so you see all over where the storms are at a glance.

Quite sunny here but still a haze of fog around.

Haven't done anything at all but sat with leg up but I am feeling quite tired now after such an early start.

Gwyn think there may be some lightening in your area along the coast.

Amokavid Report 13 Jun 2023 12:57

Good afternoon.
Well what a waste of a nice day, for me at least, after getting the "storm" Th & Lightening & heavy rain warning from SEEN nothing happened here !!
The sun continued to shine until tea-time & remained quiet & dry all day & night !

The phone call put me off staying outside & so all my tools were put back in the shed & I stayed indoors waiting & worrying about what might happen, I dont like Th etc & I worry enough when they happen & I would rather not have had such a phone call.
I can usually work out the changes in the weather myself & I would have preferred to have done that.

Our daughter who lives not too far from us didn't get a call even though she usually does because she has a child under the age of 5 yrs.

Anyway I have made up for time lost yesterday & clipped the Rosa hedge, it needed some straggly bits leveling up, also done some spot weedkilling & refilled the
birdbaths once again.
It's really warm here today so not able to stay outside for too long, I must say all my new garden benches are handy, I have 7 altogether of various descriptions but one of them is past its best now & needs chopping up, my new gliding seat is great, very comfy & I really do like relaxing on it, lol.

Pizza for tea, something really simple.

Hope everyone is having a lovely day.

Joan.

Goodness you have been busy Joan. It is really hot and humid here today, we haven’t had any rain at all.
I had a walk into the market square this morning to get a few bits I couldn’t get yesterday. I was really glad to get back because it was so hot. I am just idling the afternoon away, waiting for it to cool down.
I am supposed to be having a day out to the seaside tomorrow with my neighbour. It is only nineteen degrees on the coast, so that will be better. We are going to go to Saltburn. Esme is going on her class school trip to the seaside tomorrow as well, they are going to the next resort along

Amokavid

Amokavid Report 13 Jun 2023 15:06

It's rather warm here as well Linda, I am a slow worker so I don't get over hot & if I keep moving i can manage the heat for a short while.
The hedge is very long but I was only trimming off the straggly bits so I didn't have to spend too much time on it, the spot weedkilling took me longer to do, lol.

The hardest part of gardening for me is all the walking i have to do to get from 1 part of the garden to the other, when I fill the birdbaths I have to fill up my W can 3 times, & 5 times when watering the plants that need it.
I should get one of those gadgets for my leg that shows how many miles I have done each time I go & work the garden.

Oh a day out to Saltburn, how lovely, I am sooo jealous of your trips to the YKS coastal places,. Enjoy.

Joan.

Afternoon all
Well the fog lifted but is in the distance so no too far away. In the sun its warm but there is a dampness, coolness out in the shade.

Daughters friend came and we went out for a light lunch not too far away. Really enjoyed being out for an hour. Lots of visitors and us the only locals lol

Still feeling tired today so not up to much this afternoon.

Mums flat is on the estate agents webisites now and has had several views already so fingers crossed for some viewings now.

Not feeling like much for tea tonight, actually tinned fruit and ice cream will do me yummy!

Joan you are a busy bee but don't forget to have a few wee breaks and drink plenty in the sun.

Linda, hope you enjoy your trip out to the seaside, have a "99" on me.

Well of to see if the washing is dry now as don't want the fog to make it damp.
