Oh dear Linda, you must feel very disappointed. It must also affect your speaking as well and feel very uncomfortable. Is your own dentist back next week? Maybe a visit to them on Monday to find out what the soreness is caused by. How long have you had the bridge?

LindainHerriotCountry Report 13 Sep 2024 14:15

It is a lovely sunny day here Florence, but only fifteen degrees.

I rang the dentist at 8 am when they opened. They have a new receptionist and she wasn’t very helpful. She wanted to have me wait until next Tuesday for an appointment, but I wasn’t having that. I pay for Denplan and they have an emergency service, so as my own dentist wasn’t in today she went to speak to the other one. He agreed to see me this morning for ten minutes. When I went in, I had the remains of my broken tooth in a plastic bag. When he saw it, he hadn’t realised that the whole tooth front had fallen off, just leaving the metal frame behind it . He said that it will mean a whole new bridge, but that will take a couple of weeks to make. In the meantime he used some white stuff to try and build up the front of the tooth, but wasn’t hopeful about it staying on. It looks much better, but he warned me not to bite on it. I have just had some lunch and think that some of it has fallen off already :-(. The worst thing is that it is very sore. He said that it shouldn’t be, so that will need investigating before the new bridge is made.
Not being able to bite is going to be very difficult. I am cutting the food up into very small bits and putting it to the back of my mouth to chew. I have an appointment for when I get back from holiday to have the preparatory work done, so I will be like this for a month at least

Afternoon everyone

Linda, oh my what an unfortunate thing to happen and also just before you are going away. I hope you get into the dentist today to see if they can do something for you before you go away.

Where about's in Greece are you off to? My father is away to Corfu on 21st Sep for 2 weeks. He goes at the end of the season as its quieter with less tourists and not so hot. But he does stay in a small village not in the busy town on Corfu.

Its a grey and overcast day and quite still!. hmmm hate it when it goes like this as usually a gale follows behind it. I know Hurricane Francine is in the USA just now, so likely we will get the tail end of that.

A few more parcels arrived for me today so my xmas shopping is well on the way to being finished.

Gosh, I got a fright just now as I have the lounge window open and then was a roaring noise :-S :-S i looked up to see my plants moving about and the wind out of nowhere has become very gusty!! obviously spoke too soon.. It is also very cold outside as i found out when I nipped to the bin wearing a thinnish cardie. I didnt hang outside for very long.

Right off to get a sandwich for lunch and looking forward to a chicken breast supper for tea as daughter is in town....yummy.

Hope all is well with you all

Oh dear Linda, not a good time for anything like that to happen. Not there is ever a good time. I hope you can get it fixed I. Time, you so need that holiday. Good luck with it.

Bother, bother, bother and lots more words of a much stronger type. I was just eating a pear when there was a horrendous crack and the whole front of my two top teeth in the middle has fallen off. It is a bridge of two teeth. It looks horrendous because the grey metal inside is on show. The dentist is closed so I can’t do anything until the morning. The worst thing is that we are going to Greece on Wednesday for two weeks . They will have to take the old bridge off and take an impression and make a new bridge. The lab work will take some time, so I can’t see that happening before Tuesday. :-( :-( :-( :-(

It is cold here as well. We have had quite a lot of rain on and off through the day, Eve said she had hailstones at school.
This week is Heritage open days, so we went to Knaresborough Castle where the sallyport was open for the first time since the lockdown. The tunnel was dug out of solid rock in the 13 th century and goes from the central grassed area of the castle to the moat. It is really large 7 ft high and 6 ft wide and was dug out of the rock by hand. It was very steep and slippery to go down, but I managed it and it was worth seeing it. There was a second tunnel going in the opposite direction, but it was filled in when a car park was built. A crying shame, but that’s what they when they didn’t value our heritage
After the tunnel, we bought cakes from an excellent bakery and went to my daughters in time for Esme coming home. I got to play schools for an hour and a quarter :-( At least it kept her busy while her parents were working

Good afternoon everyone, though it's not that good re the weather.
Another chilly & windy day with showers here & there, the wind is not quite as bad as yesterday but still a pain, no outside jobs done again.
I was hoping to make a start on the cutting back & tidying up the shrubs etc before it gets too cold to go outside.

Florence, I know what you mean re moving the large pieces of furniture, I can actually manage the sofa (just) as it's just a 2 seater & I tip it on it's front t get behind it, not too often though.

It's my bed that's the biggest problem, a double & soo heavy, I have to get my daughter to help with that but even then it's not something I deal with very often & of course it's gets very dusty behind the headboard.

Not done much today, just hoovered through the living room the hallway & the back porch, can't be bothered with any more than that, lol.

Afternoon all
Another day of yesterdays awful weather. The whistling through the kitchen vent is driving me mad. We covered it with a shower cap which did quieten the sound but its so windy, its still making an whistling noise grrrr

Had a spring clean today and moved the sofas out into the middle of the room and oh my the dust behind was terrible. Anyway the 2 sofas got a good clean and now all back where they should be.

So having a sit down as quite puffed out with all the moving of things etc.

Not sure what to have for tea tonight so better have a mooch in the fridge and freezer and see what needs eating up.

Hope everyone looking in today is ok

Afternoon all.
Gosh the weather is just dire!! I was woken up early witgh the stound of torrential rain on my bedroom window, like a power shower that wouldnt stop. I got up and opened the kitchen blind and then....blooming hailstones!! Oh yes and gale force winds.
Neve mind Autumn, this is winter

It is freezing outside so cold, unreal really as a few days ago was about 16 degrees and pleasant.

Oh Joan, sorry to hear about your pan. I once left a pan on with carrots cooking and the water ran out and the pan burnt so black it was un repairable and went straight in the bin. My own fault as I was distracted at the time and completely forgot it was on the cooker.

I made lentil & veggie soup yesterday and there is enough left for tonight with crusty rolls again. Was really tasty. I grated all the turnip and carrots instead of making chunks. This was one way of getting my children to eat their veg!

I finished off my xmas cards I was making and now have about 30 for the fayre which I think will be plenty along with the gift tags. I put 10 in a bag for £2.00. Cards £2.50.

JustGinnie, any spiders up in the corners of my rooms get sucked up the hoover hose!

Well time to clear up. I just needed a break from the crafts and now to get rid of all the scraps etc. Then to sort out the soup for later.

Good afternoon everyone. It is fifteen degrees here, but the sun is making a bit of an attempt to shine through this afternoon. OH has gone out for a long walk this afternoon, so I have been pottering catching up on small jobs I planned the menus for the rest of the week this morning and went to Aldi to get all the ingredients. The only thing that they didn’t have is Dill, but there is still a small amount growing outside, so hopefully there is enough.

You seem to be settling in well Sylvia. It must be difficult for your husband to understand why he isn’t with you, especially as he won’t think there is anything wrong with him.

It was lucky that you had spare pans Joan, I have burnt a few in my time :-D

Hello Ann, I have "burnt" this particular pan before, a long time ago & not too serious so I managed to rescue it then, probably why it was worse this time.
Thankfully, burning pans is not something I do often, lol.

gosh Joan I have never had a pan burnt so badly that it has eaten into the metal. Good job you have a spare set of pans to use.

Amokavid Report 10 Sep 2024 13:45

Hi ArgyllGran.
Unfortunately the pan is ruined, the burnt bits have eaten into the base of it, fortunately I have a spare set of pans, unused & still in the box, I bought them some time ago as they were in a sale & the same ones that I use at the moment.

And so I now have my new set in place & I have put the 2 large ones from the previous set to one side,I have never actually used those 2 as I used different cooking pots for different things, someone in the family might want them but if not they can go to a charity shop.

Still blowing a gale here & trying to rain now.

Joan.

ArgyllGran Report 10 Sep 2024 13:14

Oh dear! I hope your pan can be saved, Joan.
I've done that a few times - put a pan of something on, then wandered off to do something else and forgotten all about it.

I put enough vinegar in the pan to cover the burnt bits, bring it to the boil, and then turn off the heat and leave it overnight.
In the morning, the black layer just lifts off.

It's really chilly here today. Alternate rain and sunshine, and a cold wind.
I've been out to a coffee morning in a nearby (well, a few miles away) village hall, and am now ready for some warming lunch!

Good afternoon to everyone.
Not a nice day here today, the sun is shining but it is VERY windy, strong enough to have toppled 2 of my bird tables.
I ventured out to sort them but didn't stay out for long.

I had forgotten about the tatties that I had put on & on high, & on returning back inside the pan had boiled dry & the bottom of pan & the tatties were burnt.
Pan is currently soaking & I'm hoping I can save it !!

I will now have to think of something else for my dinner / main meal now.

Joan.

JustGinnie Report 10 Sep 2024 12:26

Hello all,
Bit chilly here today outside but I'm ok as I'm indoors . OH is out in the garden using up some scrap wood making a planter . He likes to be busy . He has left me to get on with the h/work . We noticed a spider on the ceiling last night and when we got up this morning the cheeky thing had made a large web from the light to the window. It had been very industrious indeed . OH said sorry mate but the missus don't want it there as he swept it away with the feather duster. So I got the blame lol.

Sylvia your new homes sound very nice and the garden sounds beautiful. I wish you both happiness in your home. It must be strange for your OH to be dependent on carers now when you have been just the two of you for so long and he sounds like an independent person.

You sound busy Florence with your crafting and getting ahead with your c/ gifts etc. I do hope you do well with the craft fairs when the time comes.

Take care everyone .
Ginnie.

Good morning all.
What a lovely place you are both living in Sylvia. I am pretty sure there is nothing like that in UK. Probably his being sure that eventually you will be living together is keeping him happy. Hard for you to hear it but just go with it. With the weed he remembered, his long term memory is obviously still good.

14 degrees here now at 0830 so a lot cooler and very autumnal now.

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 10 Sep 2024 00:15

That sounds like a really nice place, Sylvia.
I hope you (both of you, in time) will be happy there.

Your husband's belief that he will be with you in Accessible Living reminds me of my brother, with dementia, who lives in California.

He still believes that he will be coming back to Scotland for another of his previously annual visits, although the rest of us know that that is no longer possible.

SylviaInCanada Report 9 Sep 2024 23:47

Well, OH has settled in, and the temperatures are dropping slowly to more seasonal ones. This morning was actually cloudy and quite chilly, sweater needed, but the sun is breaking through the clouds now that it is the middle of the afternoon.

It is so much easier to go and see OH now ........ I've got in the habit (4 days! :-D ) of to see him for about an hour after lunch and again after dinner. That's just continue past reception and the elevators, turn left and left again, open the door, and walk down to the end of the hall. There is a head nurse (RN) on duty 24/7, 3 shifts a day, so I get to see the morning and afternoon ones but not the overnight one. All but once when I've gone, the head nurse or her deputy has said "Oh, Sylvia, could you get him to do xxxxxxx? He's been refusing to do it!"

So I have to go in and say something like you have to do xxxxx, the nurse has to do it. He mumbles a bit, but then does what they want!

Yesterday was a really nice day, sunny but not too hot, only around 23C or so, so I took him out into the garden/patio area outside the MLC unit, it's actually a courtyard area, but with a nice quite long winding walk and with some incredible plants along the sides and in central beds. Trees are pretty tall now, so there was plenty of shade. We recognised Magnolia, tall hydrangea bushes with those long white drooping bunches of flowers, and possibly at least one dogwood. Then we sat at a patio table, on comfortable chairs, and under an umbrella for some time.

I was pretty surprised when OH said the scientific name of the weed Horsetail which was infesting one of the beds of petunias!

So we are settling in to a routine, though he still is not accepting the fact that he needs the help and support that he is getting on MLC, instead of being with me in Accessible Living. He thinks that will happen "some time, we just have to be patient".

I just got word back about another xmas fayre so we have booked 2 tables for that, very happy now. So thats 2 fayres booked, end of Nov & beg of Dec.

Sun is out but a fresh day here and stiff breeze but good to get the laundry dry..

Daughters birthday us next Monday and i thought I had a Tesco order this Saturday but i dont arghhh!! However my lovely neighbour is getting a delivery this week so she agreed to add on stuff i need for the birthday tea, thank goodness for the kindness of neighbours.

I am making her birthday cake whilst she is in town and then when she comes home, I will have it all ready for her along with a small buffet.

Think I may go outside for some fresh air now after being busy indoors. Have to make the most of this good weather.
