I always have hay fever Joan, but my eyes have never got infected before. I always put suncream on my face because I have had a couple of little spots frozen off over the years. Not carcinomas, I can’t remember the name, but there is a one in two thousand chance of them turning cancerous if they don’t remove them. I use special Soltan for the face suncream, but I find that if it is very hot and sweaty, it can run down into my eyes and it really stings. It happened last week, so I don’t know if that was the cause.
It is decidedly chilly here this afternoon, OH just went off to put a jumper on.

Afternoon eberyone from a very unsummery village.

Gosh, such a change after yesterdays lovely sunshine. Its gales here and puring hard. The wind is battering hard!!

I had 2 birthdays coming up, a best friend( shes 60) and my son so i have been busy wrapping everything and parcelling one to go off tomorrow. Daughter will take my gifts over to her brother as well tomorrow, she will be there for a week.

I then did a basket of ironing, some sewing and turned up a pair of trousers with "wonder web". That stuff is so much easier them hemming trousers anyday..

Glad your stir fry was tasty Joan and glad your SIl is able to help out with chores and the kiddies. That will be a great help for your daughter.

Linda, are you sure you are up to making dinner for all with your sore eyes? Sounds like conjunctivitis or pink eye as its called. That is really nasty.

Well I am now sitting as my toes & knees were aching as was standing for far too long. No more chores for me today, Ive done enough.

As for tea, something quick so maybe cheese on toast I think. I don't eat roast dinners except for xmas day!

Hope everyone else looking in is ok today

Afternoon everyone.
My vegatable Sir Fry was very nice Florence, really tasty.

A nice bright day here today, the sun is in & out & it's a bit breezy but a nice dry day so far. I haven't done much today, just a tidy round, not in the mood for the garden jobs.

Linda, I do hope your sore eyes get better soon, sore eyes are not nice, I suffered with sore eyes when I had the Hay Fever, I would rub them really hard as they itched soo much & they always ended up infected

I hope all is well with others on the thread.

Joan.

Good morning, it is cloudy and drizzling this morning.
My eye isn’t as sore, but it all gummed up. The other eye feels like it has got sand in it as well, so it has spread, probably me rubbing them. I am still putting the eye drops in every couple of hours during the day.
No plans for today, until later in the afternoon. As everything is now more or less in place, I can start cooking for others again, so I am doing Sunday dinner for the family.

Ooh your stir fry sounded tasty Joan, hope you enjoyed that.

Daughter made a pork stir fry with some Miso? sauce Something new i guess.

Oh Linda, thats sounds nasty. Wonder if you got some grit or dust in it? Hope the drops help.

A lovely evening here. My plants are all ok and I can see another flush of bell flowers are coming now. They are a lovely blue/purple colour. Should be a great sunset.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 3 Aug 2024 19:51

It is much cooler here today thank goodness. It was far too hot on Friday. It was only about 20 degrees today, so it feels much fresher.

My left eye was really stinging yesterday, I thought that suncream might have run into it from my forehead, but by this morning it was very sore and red, so I went to the chemists and saw the pharmacist. He said it looks like a bacterial infection, so I got some antibacterial eye drops. It still feels very sore, so I hope it jmproves tomorrow

Good afternoon.
Good to hear you have sunshine today Florence, I hope your plants are still intact.
the sun has shone the whole morning here but is now in & out, there was no wind at all earlier but we have a bit of a breeze just now.

Daughters hubby has taken the weekend off to help out at home, he's taken the youngest child to his swimming class & then did the shopping, he will be taking one of the other children to her netball class tomorrow, he's a good lad & a real help in the home.

I have put together a Vegetable Stir Fry for my meal today, a mix of fresh veg, some Bacon bits & a few slices of new potataoes through it.
Looks lovely & smells delicious.

I hope everyone is having a nice day / weekend.

Joan.

Yay :-D :-D :-D what a change in the weather. Little breeze but that keeps the midges away and....the sun has arrived lol

So after we have finished our cleaning chores etc, am off outside for fresh air and to inspect me garden.

Doesn't it just lift you up and make you feel happier when the sun is shining.

Hope everyone else is having a sunny day today.

I've been the same as you today, Florence - indoors because of wet and windy weather.
It's still raining slightly, but the wind has dropped.

I'm glad your daughter's foot isn't broken, Joan - but must be very sore.

Good things this week:
One grand-daughter started a new job (after many rejections) as a delivery driver for Amazon. I don't envy her that, and it's still very early days, but so far she's enjoying it - so fingers crossed!
The same grand-daughter, along with friends, moved into a rented house - after sleeping on someone's sofa for some time since her last rental ended.
And the dentist doesn't want to see me for another year! Woo hoo!

Florence61

Florence61 Report 2 Aug 2024 17:31

lol Linda, its me that needs the sun :-D :-D :-D

It has finally stopped raining here and I think the wind has died down a bit!

Glad you enjoyed the day with your granddaughter Linda, she's very lucky you are fit and able to take her out & about so much .

I decided to work on family tree stuff this afternoon and look at all the new info that was discovered on the newer generations. The branch is growing even more twigs than I could imagine as now I am up to 5th cousins!! Plenty to keep me busy.

Well off to finish off the tea and wait for daughter to come home. Will be late tea tonight as she wont be home til 6.30 pm and I am already starving lol

You can have some sun from us Joan. It has been horrendously hot today and I took Esme to the theme park. She had a good day because another little boy she knows was there. They hyped each other up at the discos and stage shows, but they had fun. We manage to leave about 3.30 after the last stage show, she doesn’t realise that there is another disco session and foam party before the park actually closes at five. It was all I could do to make sure that Arthur didn’t tell her. We arrive about 10.30 am, so she is tired by mid afternoon as I am

I am glad that you managed to get to the doctors Joan and that your daughter isn’t more badly hurt.

Florence61 Report 2 Aug 2024 13:30

OH Joan, so pleased no broken bones and you both got your appointments done locally as so much easier. The young mans wife sounds a lovely lady, so glad she could help you both out.

Errr could you send some sun please lol :-D :-D

The only good thing about the rain is....i dont have to water the plants but given the strength of the wind, there wont be many flower heads left at this rate!

Just been busy with laundry and paperwork, that never ends!

Lunch now and then i'm making a cheese & potato pie for tea so will need to get peeling all those potatoes and grating carrots and cheese. Its does takes awhile to prepare and make the pie but well worth the effort.

Hello to all.
Well now my daughter got a call back from 101 procedure, & it was suggested she would require an Xray, BUT the local Xray department was now closed & if she wanted to get it done straightaway she would have to travel to Aberdeen, or wait until today to have it done at our Health Centre.

She decided to go locally & after I got my B12 jab done she went for her Xray, fortunately there is nothing broken but the toes are a bit mushed up !
They can't do anything other than suggest she rests it.
Hopefully it will be on the mend very soon as she is such a busy girl.

I managed to get my B12 jab done & daughters Xray done thanks to the help of a friend of daughters, who picked us up & took us to our appointments, without her help we would have been stuck.

The friend is the wife of the young man who helps me a lot with household jobs that crop up from time to time.
Such a lovely couple, so kind.

Another hot sunny day for us again today, too hot for me, not sure I will mange going into the garden as it's just too warm for me to work in, what a difference in your weather Florence, hope your plants survive the battering.

Joan.

Morning all looking in.

What a blooming day! Gale force 8. torrential rain, the poor garden is getting battered.

So indoors today and anyway have plenty to catch up as was away a chunk of the day yesterday.
Just noticed my computer paper is running low eeek only 10 sheets left! I had 2x 500 packs of paper that has lasted well but didnt notice until today I need to restock. Thankfully i have a Tesco order next week so shall pop a pack on there. its a s cheap anything online really but it used to be £2.50 but not now.

Joan, how is your daughter? Did she need to go to A & E in Aberdeen?

I ordered a black tailored jacket from Klass and am delighted to say, it firs me perfect and so smart. The last one I bought from Next over 10 years ago but had really worn and needed to go. I had been searching for weeks and now I have found what I was looking for, so very happy and a bargain price too! :-D

Well a quick coffee and then see to me chores.

Shall look in later on

Oh dear, I hope that your daughter hasn’t broken her foot. It may just be badly bruised which will still be incredibly painful, but will heal quicker. Even so, she may not be driving for a while.

At my old practice we had a trained nurse associate who could see patients with a range of conditions and prescribe medication for those conditions. I saw her a few times and it was fine. She did chest infections, sinus problems, shingles etc. Some practices do now seem to have the PA’s who don’t seem to be as qualified as the nurse associate was. I don’t think I would want to be seeing them although everything they do is supposed to be supervised by the GP.
. We had a lot of rain overnight, but Iithas been incredibly hot and humid here this afternoon, no thunderstorms though. I don’t think they are forecast to come this far north

Amokavid Report 1 Aug 2024 16:49

hello Florence, no, no cal from 101 yet, I can see her having to travel to Aberdeen & later today/tonight, it's what usually happens !

My jab is done at the Health Centre about 6 miles away, no "kind" neighbours, lol, I don't know the 2 nearest & not that near, & a taxi is far too expensive, I am not paying over £25 to get the jab done, will just have to wait & see how daughter gets on re 101 & take it from there.
If all else fails I reckon someone just might have to come out to me to do the jab !

The sun is out once again here,& still nice & calm.

Joan.

JustGinnie, sorry forgot to comment on your question re GPs etc. If we ring for a dr appointment, the receptionist will ask many questions so she can determine if one actually needs to see a dr! I take great offence at this as it may be a private matter you would rather not discuss with a "non dr" member of staff.

They do it so less people actually take up the dr's time but...twice i have agreed to see a nurse(not recently) and then be told, I cant assist you, you will need to make a GP appointment to which I abruptly said once, "I did try telling the receptionist, I needed to see the dr, but she said she knew better."

If i thought a nurse could deal with a minor problem, then that's fine, but if i ask to see a GP, then it's because I need to.

I agree they need to weed out any "time wasters" but sometimes, its a step to far.

Oh Joan, your poor daughter! Hope she hasnt broken any bones in her foot? Did she hear back from 101 yet?

Where do you have to go for your B!2 jab, is that local surgery? If necessary and its local, could you get a taxi or your kind neighbour take you?

Hope you hear soon.

It.s now very windy almost gale force here but still bright & some sun. I was watching the storms travelling up over Oxford into Gloucs but dont think they will come this far North so Joan & I will be ok!

Amokavid Report 1 Aug 2024 16:24

Good afternoon. A nice day here today, it was sunny but not anymore though really warm even without the sun.

Goodness Linda, as busy as ever, if it's not work on the house it's doing things with the grandchildren, what a busy person you are.

Got the weekly shop done this morning, it didn't take long as I don't need very much these days.
I am still trying to use up the various meat produtcs in the freezer, not too much left now.

Our daughter had an accident today after we had done the shopping, whilst she was at my house she decided to check our water supply in the holding tank,to be sure there was plenty of water.
The tank is underground in a field next to the house with the lid lying almost level with the grass, the lid is quite large & made of cast iron & daughter usually deals with it no bother.

Today though on lifting it she caught it against the edge of the tank & the lid fell onto her left foot across all of her toes. Our very kind distant neighbour who helps me out many a time came to the rescue & took daughter to our local A & E, only to find it's no longer an A & E & informed her she would have to go through 101 & see what they have to say about it, it could mean she will have to travel to the big hospital in Aberdeen, approx 34 miles away, & at what time that might be heaven knows !!

We are constantly being told that Aberdeen hospital is overwhelmed & yet the powers that be are closing many of the local A & E departments & "sending" most folk to it regardless !!

I have my B12 jab appointment tomorrow & not sure how I am going to get there if daughters foot has a serious injury !!
Always something.

Joan.
