I didn't do anything Sue.........our Sylvia sorted you out!

Where's everyone gone????? :-S

I've been having a lovely time in a manner of speaking. I knew I had some diaries of my father's tucked away somewhere and that I had glanced at them but that was about all.

Whilst doing some sorting out this week, I decided to really look at them and, what a lovely surprise I got. They start in 1934 when he was just 21 years old and he goes through his daily routine including menu (stewed rabbit), thoughts on the day's news and all the people he sees.

I have really enjoyed learning so much more about him as he died when he was only 62 so I feel as though I am getting to know him that much better - in a funny sort of way :-D

Am going to do a bit of early Christmas shopping this afternoon. I can't abide leaving it all to the last minute and, whilst I have bought a few things online, it's also nice to go and mooch round the shops occasionally.

I am getting quite adventurous with my online shopping. I put money into a little account separate from our joint account for safety and peace of mind. I top it up when needed. It's interesting to browse through Amazon etc to see what is on offer without moving from my chair... :-D

I actually ordered a freezer on line yesterday and saved quite a lot of money over one of the electrical stores I would have visited....... :-D :-D :-D

Hopefully, all our missing friends are just busy or on holiday and that we will hear from them soon......

Meanwhile, I send my love to you all....... <3 :-D <3

Glad you had a good time Sue - and your dad sounds as though he is doing really well and is obviously well cared for.

Sounds as though you are getting to grips with the tree too.......have you seen the latest feature which was introduced yesterday?

It's up under Keepsake and, if you click on Search and then on Photos/Media, you can check to see if anyone else on this site has a photograph of your rellies.

It's not a bad idea but, GR have taken the photos with the captions which the tree owners have used so it means that, if you have an ordinary name....say Tom Jones....you will get a lot of possibilities. However, you will also get ....Tom and Ada Jones......Tom in the procession ......Tom Jones and his birthday cake sort of thing.

Most of the pictures are pixilated because of the privacy thing so you could be looking at King Kong and not know the difference!

I have been searching through some things I have inherited from my parents and found some note books belonging to my father. He used them as diaries and it's been fascinating to go through them. They start when he was 20 in 1933/4. He was very literate and describes his day including what he had to eat. :-D

I'm absolutely loving them and am seeing my dad with fresh eyes...... <3

Hope everyone is well.......would be lovely to know how Mrs Robert is doing and also Evelyn.........

Love to all.....Cx <3 <3 <3

Hi Everyone

We had a wonderful weekend ...it was very warm up in Perth on the Saturday but we were in the shade to watch the Football so it was very pleasant and it was nice to catch up with the family.

Dad is doing well for his age 84 this birthday...he gets a bit out of breath walking but we just all took our time going from place to place.

I do think they have some improvements with the site lately...it is def faster and I am still using XP IE8....I am not having so many issue with the tree as well.
There is still a lot of very unhappy people out there though.

I will update to Window 8 when it becomes available here in OZ,I think that is the best option for me even though I love my XP i do realise it is old and i will have to change one day :-(.

I have a mountain of washing to peg on the line so I will get started on that and be back later tonight for a hunt around the boards.

Love to you all <3 especilay our ladies who are missing at the moment...OH!! sorry Robert we have not heard from you in a while ....I hope you are gettimg your cave ready for Winter not long now ;-).

Hello all :-D

Your buffalo story reminds me of a safari park which I used to take the grandchildren to. You could almost guarantee that some large animal or other would be stubbornly standing in the road and you wouldn't know whether to go forwards or backwards :-D

I quite like safari parks to be honest as you do get the chance to see animals in more or less their natural surroundings - and they do look happy enough. It's a tad scary driving through the lion area but there are always wardens in jeeps on patrol.

I think I have, at last, finished sorting my photographs out. Soooo many of them and yet, I got rid of quite a few. :-S

Then I decided to sort out my boxes of memories etc. I came across a couple of my dad's diaries from the 1930's and it's made fascinating reading for me. He mentions people I only know of from the family tree and places have become real to me. Lovely stuff.

OH has had a very painful neck this week so a visit to the doc may be in order if things don't improve. :-(

On that cheerful note, I send my love to everyone...... <3

HAPPY THANKSGIVING SYLVIA

I think the UK should have a Thanksgiving day too

I loved the childrens idea of Thanksgiving dinner - wouldn't like to eat it as I think I would be very sick

Gosh Sylvia - would a bear really use the cabin as a Den - would have thought it would smell of human too much

We saw some wild bears in Yellowstone when we were there - they do look lovely in the wild - but wouldn't get too close - then we saw some rescued ones in a fenced off area with baby ones - you just wanted to cuddle them. I do know you can't

It was funny when we were in South Dakota - I wanted to see the "real Black hills of Dakota" as per the song - I do love that song - & yes i do want to be taken back to the black hills - we were driving through one of the parks & there was a buffalo sitting asleep in the middle of the road. With very little tarmac left on either side of him - the grass looked soft either side & we didn't want to get stuck.

So OH tried a patch of grass near & it was ok for the car - by the time we were ready to drive round him two of his "chums" had arrived & were standing either side of him watching us. So no road left. 1 car - (3 people in side) & 3 big buffalo (1 asleep) - so OH reveresed a bit & turned the engin off - the 2 buffalo got fed up of watching us as we weren't doing anything & moved off.

Oh started the car again & moved toward our sleeping beauty (very slowly so as not to wake him & give him a panic) - as he got on the grass the other two buffalo came wandering over & stood both on the same side this time - so I lowered the window & took a photo again - I sware they all posed for me. By the time we had got past sleeping beauty there were a crowd of them all wanting their photos taken too & the big one was still asleep. It was just so funny

They looked lovely & gentle too - but I know they arn't - I would love to go back there again & Yellowstone - I love the huge wide open spaces & the peace that settles over you.

oh dear back to work now - less of the daydreams.

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Hi Sue

and everyone

Good news about your OH, Cyn xx

Anne ............. I'm sure things will work out for your nephew. It's amazing how many people work from home, and their own little world, over here. From computer programmers to cartoonists and illustrators!

Reece .......... how annoying that everything has been delayed yet again. xxx

We had our last trip this year up to the cabin from Monday to Wednesday ....... we spent the 2 nights in a hotel in the nearby town, and drove out to the cabin on Tuesday to do the last necessary bit.

We had a good trip up north, the weather was OK on Monday, grey and chilly on Tuesday ..... and fantastic on Wednesday!!

It was chilly at about 6 or 7C up at the cabin on Tuesday ........ but OH had taken both the large and small axes, and cut some of the stored logs into suitable sizes for the wood stove. So I sat inside in the lovely warmth, while he worked outside! There was one spell of about 10 minutes when I had to go out onto the sun porch to help him ........... which has screened windows but no glass in them, so it gets all the "fresh" air. I was well wrapped up!!

It was one of those screens that the guy(s) ripped out this spring to get access to the cabin. I was afraid that a bear might climb in through the open space to "den" for the winter. I didn't fancy facing him next spring

It was -3C at about 8:30 am Wednesday morning when we were having our breakfast in the hotel prior to leaving. It was, however, sunny with clear blue skies ............... and we had that all the way home. In fact, we had to turn on the air conditioning in the car after lunch!

I picked up a little free local advertising/newspaper in the coffee shop up there on Wednesday ........

...... it is Thanksgiving in Canada this coming Monday, and they had printed recipes for common foods at Thanksgiving, as recommended by the Kindergarten Class (ages 5 to 6). I thought you might enjoy them.

Turkey ............. you buy the turkey and take the paper off it. Then you put it in the refrigerator and take it back out and cut it with a knife and make sure all the wires are out and take out the neck and heart. Then you put it in a big pan and cook it for half an hour at 80 degrees. Then you invite people over and eat.

Chicken Pie ............... Put the chicken in the pot and put the salad and cheese and mustard and then you mix it all together. Then put chicken sauce and stir it all around again. Then you cook it for 5 minutes at 9 degrees. Then you eat it.

Pumpkin Pie ............. First you put pumpkin seeds in it. Put it in a pan and bake it at 5 degrees for 6 minutes. Then take it out and eat it.

Deer Jerky (a dried meat) ....... Put it in the oven overnight at 20 degrees. Then you go hunting and bring it with you. Then you eat it.

:-D :-D :-D :-D

Take care everyone

Safe journey Sue - Hope you have a wonderful weekend

Good news about the OH Cynthia

Back on the subject of the Great Nephew - when he was little he would sit on my lap for stories - nothing would disturb him a bomb could drop & he would still sit there – once at school things changed a bit - it took a couple of years for them to persuade him to stay all day - if he didn't like something he would leave the class.

He managed to walk home on his own one day - funniest thing really as his Grandmother was head of infants at the time – she sat him down & explained it all to him.

His mum said didn’t you ask nanny he explained to his mum that it wasn’t his Nan at school it was Mrs ******* a different person. He would not acknowledge they were the same person, and still won’t - he had to split them in his mind.

He was fine as soon as he went to Junior school – no fixations or anything – then he moved to senior school - first two years nothing – then he started not wanting to leave the school at lunchtime or break – he would offer to tidy classrooms or get them ready – or sit on his own in the library – anything to avoid people.
He would do anything to be late leaving school so he didn’t have to go on the bus with the other boys – his mum always wondered why he was late . His form teacher called his Mum in & told her - the social worker was called but nothing would persuade him to join in ( he hated her) - so they left him to it in the end.

He is still the same at school now - when they have visitors he goes to his room or sits as far away from people as possible - he hates visiting relatives unless it’s his Nan. He would love to live with her as its quieter there less noise.

However he talked with a friend of his (he has 3) who told him about Air Cadets & how they are all told exactly what to do all the time & not have to make their own decisions until a lot later on. He begged his mum to let him join – so she made an appointment to see them – explained the problem & they said they were willing to give him 3 months trial.

He has been there 2 months now & loves it – when asked he said he loves being told what to do & not having to mix with people & being made to think for himself. he does still talk to family if he has to.

When he leaves school he wants to work from his bedroom & not really have to leave it all day – cook food in there & have an on-suite built for him by his dad.
If he can’t have that then he would like a little room in a very quiet building & just be on his own doing artwork & drawings & not have to speak with anyone. They
can send him emails & tell him what they want.

He is beginning to worry us all at the moment - we dont know what is going to happen to him when he has to leave & find a job. I think he thinks it will all just fall in his lap.

Oh well thats quite enough from me -

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

HI Everyone

Things are slow but I have not been on much either...still trying to see how much it will cost me to update my computer to Windows 8,it is not out yet here but I think it will cost me a packet .
I can buy Windows 7 for $200 but don't think it is worth getting that as that is on its way out too,may as well get the latest while I am at it ..so waiting to get a price on Windows 8.

I have had a few PMS form Estelle and they are looking at moving the save button to the top of the tree page that will save us a bit of messing around, they are also looking at a new colour scheme...sent them a site that we check our weather on in OZ ,it has a darker grey background and still white in the centre.

That colour scheme does not hurt your eyes so much

Anne my XP is working OK but I just have to change a few things when I go into my tree to get my save button to appear ...Compatibility on for the icons and off for the tree that sort of nuisance things.

Glad to hear your OH is doing well ,we have a friend with Parkinson's and he is not doing so well but he gets angry with it to...frustration as far as I can see.

Going up to Perth this weekend to see Dad and watch our 14yr old Grt Nephew play Football , nice weather at the moment so should be good Weekend.

Better get dinner going :-D

Heavens! We are slow on this thread lately aren't we? I guess folk are so busy with things.

Really sorry to hear about the postponement yet again Reece - how very frustrating for you. Hopefully, things will approve in the New Year and you can start making more concrete plans. <3

Anne, as you know, my daughter has Asperger's too. If your gt. nephew is fixated with what he wants to do then he should be encouraged as he will probable excel and make an excellent employee. People with AS aren't usually bothered with any office gossip or get sidetracked by things. They also tend to stay on to get work finished rather than leave a job half done.

I've been in touch with someone on GR who has one of my family mysteries in her tree. Very interesting conversations we have had.

My OH went to see the Parkinson's nurse this morning and all is, thankfully, stable at the moment. :-D

Going to have a look round to see what's happening on the boards.....

Love to all Cx <3 <3

Thank you Reece - so sorry to hear the move has been postponed again - its all very unsettling for you. I am really sorry to hear the news about your sister its good to know she is still at home though.

Sue I am still on Windows XP - at the moment (touch wood) everything seems to be working ok & on the android phone too - looks like Reece is having the same sort of problem too.

How lovely for your granddaughter Cynthia - Wonder what she will go for when she is older. My Great nephew is a genius at Art too - he wants to go into cartoons when he leaves school - we keep trying to tell him he needs to think about other ideas too - but cant budge him - he does have Aspergers so gets very fixated on some things.

I visited the hairdresser on Thursday - thought the time had come to get a change - so had 8 inches cut off and had the hair thinned out a lot - back to layers & shoulder length hair again. OH went aagh when he saw it but likes it now.

Feels a lot lighter too - silly thing to do when the weather gets cooler I know - but was fed up trying to keep it at bay.

Well off to work on the tree.

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Hello everyone,

Having quite a bad time as my move has now been postponed yet again, this time to March! So frustrating and disappointing. Owners still blaming the bad weather in the Spring and Summer!

Then most likely having to go into hospital so trying to get on with sorting and sifting. I will know in a week or so, I hope.

Plus the computer seems to have a mind of its own these days - so I know how you feel Sue. Hope yours gets sorted soon for you.

How lovely for your grand daughter, Cynthia.

Anne, so glad you enjoyed your break away with your OH and send belated birthday greetings to you both.

Must away now but send love and all good wishes. Bil always telephones from Oz on Sunday mornings to share our news and commiserations, too. Sister is unable to speak now and is very frail but still at home.

Hi Everyone

Cynthia so very pleased for your Grandaughter you sound so proud and i don't blame you .

You must have Windows 7 then to able to have IE9 I can only go as far as IE8 as I am still with XP.

I am going to do a price check on how much it will cost to update my whole computer ...I can't really afford it bu it looks as if I won't have much of a choice with everything that is going on here.
I already have a new screen 19inch LED,new speakers ....it really is just the tower that needs overhauling

I am pleased they are starting to answer some of our requests ....lets see how much they take notice though.

My Computer man could not make it this week so will have to wait until next week now.

I would use FireFox and Chrome if I could only get them to not interfere with my IE8

I am off out into the garden Trying to get my Tomatoes and capsicum in before the next lot of rain ;-)

Love to everyone <3 <3 <3

Poor Sue, you really sound as though you are having a bad time of things computer wise. :-(

Like Sylvia, I use more than one browser.....IE9, Chrome and Firefox. Depends which mood I'm as to which I use.

I haven't had many problems with the tree either. I have noticed that, after adding a photo, you need to go back to the Details page to 'save' before you close down.

There is quite a lot of advice in the FAQs section which may help..... :-S

I have decided to downsize my photos as I need the space - albums do take up a lot of space I've decided. I have now been sorting photos for two days and am still going!! I think my family were just too 'snap happy'!!! :-D

I was very proud of my granddaughter this week when I heard that she was presented with an award for Creative Art. She is, I have to admit, very talented in that direction and her teacher obviously thinks so too. She is 14 now so whether she decides to make a career of this, depends to be seen...... <3

With love to all my friends......Cx <3 <3

Hi Everyone

Just noticed how quiet the Suggestion boards have gone since Phil and Estelle posted a few messages over the last couple of days.

That strikes me as strange now is the time to have your say while they are posting them selves .

I do hope they change the Save button to top of the tree page ..it would def save me a lot of stress

Compatibility on for the site off for the tree would be good to change that too.

The weather here has been terrible and so cold with heavy rain almost like the middle of Winter.

Glad you had a nice weekend away with the OH Anne I always like it when we do the same but at the moment I have this little girl that comes over almost every day (Grt Grandaughter ) It is so wonderful to have a baby around again our Grandchildren grew up so quick ...you wonder where the years went.

Th e OH and I are still young yet so looking forward to more of the little tykes.

Off to get the dinner dishes out of the way ..drop in later.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes -

Rain nearly stopped play as we were in Worcestershire - roads looked more like rivers - we even had to come off the motorway as it was so dangerous - so much water just lying in great pools all over the carriageways.

~Think we had a whole months rain in a couple of days

We had a nice few days away just the two of us.
