Hi Everyone

Good work Sylvia I could not find her.

I am enjoying looking at the boards again and searching for rellies in my own tree.

Cold wet and windy today ,I am trying to get back to normal with having my Uncle from the UK with me and then going up to the big smoke quite a few times over the last week or so I have gotten behind with everything but I am slowly getting on top of it.

Washing today then the ironing...hope i can get some dry.

Drop in tonight.

Sylvia,

Thank you so much for the info.

Coincidentally, I had just started to look at Frank. Starting with the 1911 Census I had got back to 1891 Census - so I can add the 1871 to him as well.

If anyone has a spare moment I would welcome assistance in finding the 1871 Census record for my 2x greatgrandmother, Mathilda Nicholls. Shw was widowed in 1866 and on the 1881 Census she was the Head of family living with 2 boarders and a servant.

Living in sudbury, Suffolk, England in 1861 and 1881, so would expect to find her in Sudbury in 1871.

She died in Sudbury in 1888 .

Thanks for the fresh pair of eyes.

Thanks for the support.

I had a brainwave - it happens occasionally - and recognised that rights of way are shown on Ordnance Survey maps. My pal recently purchased a programme for his IPod that gave hime access to the whole of the Ordnance Survey for the UK.

He reviewed the area and saw no right of way marked.

Further he sent me a Google Map that showed the area 10 years ago before Church Road was adopted and ashphalted. This showed the disputed area not on the line of Church road exended into the protected wood.

I then contacted Kent county council who have what is called the Definitive Map - this shows all rights of way, footpaths etc and more importantly details their significance. Although bookings normally need a week's notice, I have managed to make an appointment to see the Map and discuss my concern on Monday.
They also told me about the interactive map that could be examined free on line. It does not have legal acceptance, but allows you to get a good idea if you are correct. The map shows rights of way in the forest, together with restriced rights i.e no cars or horse and carts.

The Councillor who has consistently objected is at best being disingenuous - at worst ....... Rights of way were originally footpaths, drovers paths or bridle paths. Over time some then turned into cart paths, and eventually paved roads, so the middle of the paved road would have been the middle of the original footpath. The paved road effectively became the new right of way. in the case of Church Road, the new pavement installed last year could be regarded as the right of way - it is on the opposite side of the road.

I have written to my District councillor asking for his advice in how to best handle the situation. I realise that local politics can be based on personalities and cliques, and if I am exposing her 'vendetta' I do not want it to make my position worse.

Will keep everyone updated.

Arthur - as long as the chairman is on the right wave length (sounds like he is) it should be a done deal & the others vote his way - the other woman is a real jobsworth - i woudl vote for you if you stood against her.

Looks like she has had everything her way for far too long.

Only a flying visit - will try & pop in to morrow if I get a chance

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3

Sorry folks - have been missing on here for a few days.....got carried away with meself..... :-D

I enjoy Lewis and especially enjoyed the new one last night. Such a change to be able to watch something good for a change.

That local councillor needs sorting out! She sounds very OTT on ancient rights of way and am amazed she can get away with it.... :-S What a silly woman indeed. Keep fighting.......for as long as it takes Old.

I've been doing a fair bit of family research here and there and it's amazing where the time goes.

Also been busy with grandchildren and OH. I try and take him out when his meds have 'kicked in' which can disrupt my day somewhat but is beneficial for him.

Took my friend out for a coffee and a cake and she really enjoyed it. She has now been home for seven weeks and has settled in well. She has decided to have her carpets cleaned and is talking about some redecoration....good for her!

Going to look out some facts for someone now......take care and love to all Cx :-D <3

Safely back from Kazakhstan after a great holiday.

This morning a 3 person delegation from the Parish Council visited to view my actions over the Highways land. The councillor who made the original complaint was present.

The argument from her changed again to one of ancient rights of way. I have apparently blocked the public's right of way to walk into the protected wood. Any normal person would see that this is a ridiculous statement as they can still walk into the wood - not so she says, it must be to the original line and not deviate. At this point I could easily have throttled her.

The chairman of the Parish Council did his best to find a solution to which she would not object, but this was almost impossible. He said the 'Law is an ass, and I was the victim of the law'. He pointed out that the law requires taxi drivers to have a bale of hay when they ply for trade, but that the law is not enforced. Plans are apprently being made to repeal a lot of ancient laws made centuries ago that are no longer relevant.

She claimed that people should have the right to walk in the road and would then be obstructed by the rope between posts. I said that nobody walked in the road now that a pavement had been installed. She said that she often did, at which point I said "I had better not comment".

She said she did not like the pea shingle, but the other councillors thought it was a better solution than reinstating grass with all its attendant problems. She then spotted a berberis shrub and said - "That has spines, dosn't it?" In her opinion it would represent a hazard to anyone walking across the pea shingle. At this point the Chairman asked if she was starting a campaign, and what did she want done with the flower garden that my neighbour has erected on Highways land - no answer.

I could see that the Council Chairman was sympathetic to what I had done, and his proposal that I should remove the posts and rope, but retain the pea shingle, may be the best solution, but I am furious that some local 'jobsworth' can cause such trouble. He will present his proposal to a meeting next week. If the public are allowed to attend, I will attend.

She was elected unopposed and I am seriously considering standing against her when there are elections. Compromise is not in her vocabulary.

I am going to consult with my solicitor who handled my purchase of the bungalow to better understand why my boundary appears to be several metres shorter than my neighbours - it may be due to the ancient right of way.

Cynthia - I still have the booking form showing the time on it - I kept it to show the stupidity of some surgery receptionists - this was all because she said she didn't have one for over 2 weeks - Dr got cross so she said the only one free that week was 2:30 - so i took it to be annoying - then I called back to change it.

Fin L birthday treat & party went really well - feel really worn out - glad i took the day off today - just to relax and get a few things done. I think we were on the go for most of the time. Still he had a wonderful time which is all that mattered.

Been very quiet on here for a few days.

I was very confused on Sunday evening Cynthia - we all sat down to watch Vera - then they showed an add for the new series of Lewis on Wednesday - then the show started & the first thing we saw was starring Kevin Whately - so both SinL & I said gosh that makes a change seeing him in another show - as its a northern one it wasn't that much of a surprise - then Laurence Fox came up on the screen followed by LEWIS - so we all thoguht they had made a mistake & shown it in error.

Gave us something to talk about. I managed to sit through the whole Lewis without falling asleep which is amazing.

Well off to have a potter about while I am on my own & OH is out & about - oh the joy of a peaceful house - except for the noise from the building site behind me - more about that another day.

Take care all :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Really good news Josie....very pleased for both you and your OH. :-D Lancashire online parish clerk has always been free I think and there is also LancsBMD. Whereabouts in Lancashire are you researching? If it's anywhere near me, I am willing to help.

I can't believe you were asked to go for a fasting test at 2.30 Anne. That's just plain rediculous. :-S

I've been tracking a relative too.........it's one of my OH's uncles whom he only met once over 60 years ago! It's a bit of a longshot but I am trying to see if there is anyone still around who may have photos of him etc. I put a thread up and some some of our lovely friends on Genes found his 2nd wife's birth for me. I'm waiting for a marriage cert to verify his first wife.

Naturally, it's got to be a complicated hasn't it??? :-D

I don't watch BGT but did catch the last part of the final last night. It was different! I think the Queen will be quite interested in the performing dog rather than the usual musical act.

Settling down to watch Lewis......we were going to watch Vera but the programme has been changed suddenly. Something to do with today's events in Afghanistan apparently :-S

Love to all.......Cx <3

Hi Everyone,
Genes are slowly getting their act together again and I can get to our thread and on to the right page in less than minute :-D

The Training Course did not eventuate :-S I was told I had been accepted but was never contacted as to where or when and Then the person who I had to deal with failed to respond to my emails and then it was to late.

You can guess I was not Happy :-(

BUT GOOD NEWS I start a new Job on 2nd June. I will be Working for a company called Research New Zealand I will be working in a Call Centre type environment phoning people to do Telephone Surveys, it is part time /casual but I can choose my shifts and how many I do each week.
The pay rate is good and with this experience I will be able to look at applying next year for full time Call Centre work.

My Arthritic Knees can not cope anymore with retail or Cafe work so am looking forward to a sit down Job.

I have been practising my keyboard typing using a Typing Test online as I never took Typing when I was at School. So am a one finger Typist.

When I started I had a speed of of 13 words a minute and 20 mistakes. I now can average 25 words a minute with 99% accuracy.

Some of the Surveys I will be doing will require me to .Type word for word the answers to some of the questions so accuracy is extremely important.

Initially I have to work the Evening Shift 5pm-9pm but if I work out okay then I will have the option of both evening and afternoon shifts.

Am feeling nervous but rather excited at finnaly having a Job again.

OH has been short listed for a Job he applied for, so things are starting to look positive.

I have been keeping myself busy finnaly working on the Branch of My Family Tree that was the reason I joined 'Genes' 7 years ago. After hitting brick walls at every turn I put it on the back burner and went off in search of my OH'S ancestors which has been hugely successful .
But thought it was time, now there are so many more records on line and I have free access to the Lancashire Parish Clerk Site.
So have made good Progress on finding my Maternal Grandfather's Mother's family.

I also was excited to get some photos of my Father as a young Boy sent to me by my re-discovered Dutch Cousin.
When my Father emigrated From Holland to New Zealand in 1948. The only photo he brought with him was one of his Parents. So even my Mother had never seen any Photos of Him as a Boy.
In one photo he is holding a' Marmot' I have no idea whether this was a pet, the only thing I know about Marmot's was that their Pelts where used in Fur Coats.
So was quite fascinated and wished he was still alive so I could have asked him about it.

I also now have a Photo of my Dutch Great Grandfather who died a year after I was born. A little short man that looks like a 'Mafia Godfather' except he is not Sicilian.

Take care everyone, catch you all later Josie
