Hi Everyone

When I think back to the birth of our first child I was very young.... 20 but I managed very well and by the time the second one arrived 3yrs later I new it all.

My second child Wendy was a dream baby she was sleeping all night from the age of three weeks ,I had to wake her up to feed her ,she is 39 now and still loves her bed.

I am enjoying just having a look around the boards ...Boy have I missed the boards, now I should be able to help out a bit and do my own tree again .

Looking forward to the London Olympics...... I always enjoy all kinds of Sport but the Swimming is my favorite.

I am off to watch the Football Aussie Rules that is.

Talk again tomorrow.

That's very positive news Arthur......you have worked hard at this so you must be feeling quite 'chipper' :-D

Actually, I was very interested to see you mention Kingsdown. My maternal side is from around that area........Seal, Crockenhill, Hartley etc. Small world :-D

When I hear about young babies keeping their parents awake at night, I am grateful that we have children when we are young........i really don't understand those women who want them in their 50's and 60's - it's such tiring work...... :-S

I have a super tidy house ready for the visit of the person who is coming to do an 'assessment' on my OH to see if there is any help they can give him. Will be glad when it's all over to be honest. :-(

Had better think if I have missed any corners anywhere.

Love to you all........Cx.

Hi Everyone

I finally have my eyes back though it does feel a little strange looking out of my new readers but I am sure I will get used to them.

Baby is doing fine ...keeping her parents up at night but that is normal I think until they get used to having a baby in the house and they get her into a routine.

Arthur your news sound more possitive .

Just a short one as I have only just walked in with my readers and I had to give you all the good news, will pop in again tonight.

Hi everyone

Arthur .......... that certainly sounds more positive!

Enjoy your holiday ...... and forget this nonsense until you get back!

Sue .... glad that your gt granddaughter is home.

I thought the soft spots (there are 2) were to allow the baby's head to change shape slightly with the skull bones slipping over one another as the baby passes through the birth canal.

The big front one usually closes entirely at 18-24 months, while the much smaller one at the back closes at about 6 weeks after birth.

we'll be away for a few days from next Tuesday on.

Just returned from the Parish Council meeting.

It was my first Council meeting of any kind and was very interesting as West Kingsdown will be hosting a Paralympic event at Brands Hatch.

Uniquely the Paralympic cycling road race will not be over the Olympic route, but will take place largely within the Brands Hatch circuit and surrounding roads. This will mean road closures of several days duration.

The Police, LOCOG were there, the District council and the Highways Dept. They are having to consider so many things.

Anyway, to my problem.

The Parish council clerk requested that the Parish council withdraw their complaint in order that I could then discuss with the Highways Dept. a 'stopping up' order. My District councillor, who had been very helpful then explained in more detail.
At this point I provided them with before and after photos and was complimentsd on how nice it looked.

However, the Councillor who had made the original complaint then came forward with rationale why there was a problem - this involved multiple fire engines and their access to the protected wood. the were some gasps from the public.

Quickly, a Parish councillor suggested that a site visit would reolve any issues and this will be arranged on my return from holiday.

There were some amusing moments when I said it would be difficult to retore the land to its former state - someone said it was so tidy now. Someone volunteered their dogs to provide the necessary health hazard at which general laughter broke out.

I am hopeful that commonsense will prevail and that this one councillor will be leant on by her colleagues.

A stoppping up order would require consultation for which I would pay, and someone may object - not her!, but an equally misguided soul.

Still I can go on my holiday in a more relaxed mood. :-)

Sue. it's good to know that all is going well with your gt.granddaughter....this makes your dad a gt.gt.grandad doesn't it....bet he is thrilled. Make sure you get some good photos of them together.

Hoping it all goes your way tomorrow night Arthur..... :-D :-D :-D Keep us posted.

Nothing exciting here today. Took some stuff from the garage down to the council tipsite - such fun :-S

I may, actually, give my carpets a freshen up with my little carpet cleaner wotsit.

The excitement never ends.......

Hi Everyone

All good news on the Baby front, she finally came home yesterday, they did not see a problem with her having no soft spot on top of her head as she has other places that the head can expand as her brain grows ,of course they will keep a check on her

I hate going to Perth at the best of times but we just had to go up there to see our new Great Granddaughter to see for ourselves that she is ok.
It also gave me a bit of time with my Dad who is also doing well.

My Grandaughter only lives just down the road from us so I can pop in to help her out as I remember very well how disorganised I was when I had my first baby,i never had the time to do everything until I got into a routine then I was fine .
Our Grt Grandaughter needs some plastic surgery on her ear as it is folded back while in the womb, they did a hearing test on her and say there is activity there so believe the ear canal and drum are there .
That was a big relief.

Pick up my reading glasses this week can't wait to get stuck into my tree again .

I hope everyone is well
Robert I do hope your wife is doing OK
Sylvia congrats on getting money back from the Tax man very unusually in this country.

Love to you all <3

Hi all

we have had some lovely sunny warm Spring weather ................. and the cherries, magnolias, etc are just beautiful! Unfortunately, rain is forecast for the next 2 or 3 days :-(

C ............. I love getting refunds!

We heard from our accountant on Friday that we should be getting a very nice refund from the government after he files our taxes :-D :-D :-D

The government can request an accounting ......... especially as much of the refund is due to the vast amount of money that OH spent on having his implants. But the accountant has all the receipts, so there should (repeat should!) be no problem.

So how is everyone doing????

Where are you up to with your negotiations Arthur? Hope it is all going well and that things get settled quickly.

Not much activity on here over the weekend was there?? :-S

Have had quite a busy couple of days but only the ironing to face now - at least, until tomorrow that is :-D

Went to the dentist this morning and he was very pleased with my gnashers......all my own too! :-D

Happy St. George's Day to those of us in the UK. Haven't noticed any celebrations going on anywhere though.....

Had a nice rebate from our gas/electricy supplier today. I decided to log into their website and have a look at how things were with our account. I was surprised to see that we were so much in credit........didn't take me long to ask for a refund. It may as well be earning interest in our account as in theirs!!!

Car insurance next month......and I really, really, want some outside paintwork doing :-(

Will go for a quick look round before embarking on the ironing.

Love to all <3 Cx.

Spoke to neighbours to confirm that they do not want the grass verge reinstated - absolutely not.

One has lived here for almost 20 years and remembers when Church road was unadopted and always in a dreadful state when it rained. The Council suggested adopting the road (even then there was one neighbour who objected). If they wanted street lights then their rates would be increased - no street lights.

He has documentation relating to unadopted road that leads to the protected wood and thinks this will lend weight to my discussions with the Parish Council. He is gathering everything to gether and we will review later today.

Cynthia - you do lead such an exciting life - must have been the envy of the street - all those Firemen.

Nice to hear your friend is getting on so well.

I have a day off work tomorrow its our anniversary of being together (when he moved in with me) 20 years ago tomorrow - time has flow - still feels like only yesterday & so much has happened.

Then we are up at the inlaws - so no internet access - i go into deep depression when i can't get on GR for a day or more.

Will try & pop in tomorrow if I get a chance.

Hope the new mum & baby are doing well.

Take care all <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Hello.....

Many congratulations on the birth of your new baby great granddaughter Sue. You must be thrilled to bits - a new baby is such an exciting time. Hope all goes well at the hospital for mum and baby.

Now, how did your eye test go? I bet you will be relieved to get back to being able to see properly.

Oh Arthur! What a parlava to be sure. Isn't it just typical of a council - they ignore a piece of land for years and then, when someone does someting good with it, they complain. Stick to your guns...........your neighbours should be grateful to you for helping to keep the area tidy.

I see Anne whizzed in and then disappeared........what a busy lady.

My firemen came last night. They cancelled calling on Monday and changed it to the Tuesday night and they would NOT be bringing a fire engine......The appointment was between 6pm - 9 pm.

I had the grandchildren that afternoon and my son arrived for his meal at about 4 minutes to six. Imagine his surprise when, as he picked up his knife and fork, there was a knock at the door and a group of firemen walked in!! I hadn't had chance to tell him that they were due to call that evening.........the look on his face was so funny..... :-D

Actually, it was one fireman and several 'volunteers'. I answered some questions and was given advice on having an escape plan. They checked we had fire alarms and said that one was in the wrong place. They repositioned it with a new alarm and replaced the one upstairs....all for free..... :-D

And there they were..............................gone! Must have taken all of 10 mins :-S

Have been having some fun with my tree and remembered some papers I was sent ages ago. I rooted them out and have been merrily adding information and googling away. :-D

Tomorrow I am hoping to take my once poorly friend shopping. She is now into her third week at home and is doing well. So incredible.

Take care and love all......Cx <3

Old Report 17 Apr 2012 10:58

Glad that Robert's wife is OK

Susan - do hope there are no complications with April Jane.

An update on my front garden.

My County Councillor replied yesterday - he only visited Saturday - and the news was not good. The person who complained is a Parish Councillor who is the Chairman of the Planning Committee. He said she has an interest in 'rights of way' and the County Council do not believe that the Parish council will allow me to purchase the land. I must therefore reinstate the grass verge.

I have replied and requested my right of appeal - if you make a Planning Application and it is rejected, you can appeal.

I would like to take one or all of the following actions:

1. Canvas the rsidents of the two roads either side of the 'right of way'

2 Get an article in the local paper to canvas views of all potential users of the 'right of way'.

3. Talk to the Parish council

I should explain that the 'right of way' that I have interefered with was a grass verge in front of my garden. It is Highways land, but they did not maintain it. Over time it became a repository for rubbish, especially when the refuse carts collected peoples' rubbish, but worse than that dogs fouled the area. It was, thereore, a health hazard. In the nearly nine years I have lived here I have never seen anyone walk on the grass.
The grass verge was alongside the unadopted road leading into a protected wood - the real 'right of way' - everybody walked on this.
The road from the right of my property is a hill, that until last year had no pavements. People with dogs and Mums with pushchairs were forced to walk in the road. If they then wanted to go into the wood, they never used the grass verge, they walked down the unadopted road.
Now there is a pavement on the opposite side of the road - people no longer walk in the road and cross over to my side when they reach the entrance to the unadopted road.

I will of course be speaking to my immediate neighbours to confirm that none of them want the grass verge reinstating.

Will keep you informed of progress - may make the local TV if it does not go as I want.
