Astra, with Ada's marriage i have a problem here, you see Ada E Walker is my nan's sister Ada Horsted being my nan's mum. However on my nan's birth cert (1896) it states father as walter walker, on her marriage cert of 1920 it states father as James albert walker and in brackets deceased fishmonger. So im really confused as to which walker ada horsted settled with

Astra

Astra Report 14 Nov 2009 17:48

Scrap that. So you know that the parents of your Nan are correct. What was Nan's name and when was she born. I'm thinking that you have the wrong marriage cert.>>>>>>>Oh no you can't have because this is your Nan you're talking about. So the Ada born to Walter you think is the correct one.

Maria

Maria Report 14 Nov 2009 17:51

Astra, you mean Ada Horsted

Maria

Maria Report 14 Nov 2009 17:56

Astra, I have my nan's original birth and marriage certs, details as follows:
Elizabeth Ann Walker born 21st July 1896 west ham, mother ada horsted father walter walker
marriage cert: married Richard henry ferris 22nd feb 1920 west ham fathers name James Albert Walker (deceased) occ Fishmonger

I'm getting really confused now! But that's not difficult for me.
Ada Horsted married Albert Frededrick Walker in 1890 in West Ham.
We then have Ada E born to Walter Walker and Ada nee Horsted in 1891 West Ham.
Then your Grandmother Elizabeth in 1896.
When Elizabeth marries her father is James Albert Walker.
So we have three Walkers.

Absolutely right and that's why im really confused!!!!!!!!! this problem leaves me unable to research anything on my nans side and i don't know what to do about it. Obviously Ada had a thing for men called Walker lol,

Maria

Maria Report 14 Nov 2009 18:11

Also my dad says nan had a few brothers and sisters - but i cant find any?

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 14 Nov 2009 18:11

Astra/Christie.

It's quite possible there is no father at all... It's common for people to invent fathers.

I do wonder that if her father has died she simply could not remember his full and proper name?

Do we have brothers with the same lady? Does the first Walker die and his brother took on the family and then fathered the second child?

That would all make sense if we didn't have her as married or living with Walter in 1901. I can't locate either of them in 1911,

Maria

Maria Report 14 Nov 2009 18:19

Tracy/Astra, so we know that Walter fathered Ada & Elizabeth and he was around in 1901.

Maria

Maria Report 14 Nov 2009 18:30

Right just spoke to my dad, and he says Ada Horsted was still alive in 1939 because she was round there house when war was declared and they were all listening to the radio (that may be a useless piece of info), he says my nan Elizabeth had a brother Jim (prob James), and sisters ginny (don't know what that would be short for) and a sister cissy (again dont know what thats short for) . Dunno if this helps?

Astra

Astra Report 14 Nov 2009 18:33

Every little helps. I'm going to have to go and cook dinner.

I was wondering if this was Albert who ADa married and for some reason he used his father's name. But I think I am clutching at straws.
I'll be back later
