Anger or Ainger

Paul Report 4 Dec 2007 08:22

My Gt Grandfather Frederick William A(i)nger (1873-1957) had four brothers and two sisters.

All were born in Ingatestone, Essex, England.

We know one of the brothers went to Canada c1910 as we have photos of him in Canada and his son came over to the UK in c1949 looking to get my parents to move to Canada.

His anyone knowlege of either:

(1) Alfred Anger born 1886 and in UK Census of 1901 shown as a coach builders lad and still living in Ingatestone.
(2) Francis Anger born June 1891. He is recorded in the 1901 Census as living at home.

I have been unable to find any reference to either Alfred or Francis after the 1901 Census and neither are remembered by my mother. Therefore it must have been one of these two that went to Canada; what happened to the other is unknown.

Over the years the records have the family name as either Ainger or Anger. My mother name is the latter, but always pronounced "Ainger".

Any help gratefully received.

Regards
Paul Goldsmith
