Trying to find ancestors of grandmother, ELIZABETH NEWMAN ALDER, born in Letcombe Regis, Berkshire, 1867. Died St. Pancras, London, 1902, having married CHARLES ANTOINE DUPLAIN, a linguist from the Jura region of Switzerland. ELIZABETH's parents were JOHN and SARAH ALDER of Letcombe Regis. JOHN's father's name was SHADRACH ALDER. According to the 1881 census JOHN was a carpenter aged 49. Wife SARAH was 55. Their children were EDWARD, 21 ALBERT, 19 ELIZABETH (my grandmother), 16 GEORGINA, 14 AUGUSTA, 12, who married FRIZ BRIGHTLING, printer/compositor.
