Hello Val, it was actually Alan who started the thread asking for help - Maryb is one of the kind people helping him find the info.

Alan may not be checking back for replies as it's 2½ years since his last post.

You could click on his name to attempt to contact him by direct message.

Good luck!

Hello Mary,
I am still trying to get the hang of researching this new setup.
I do have 5 Mary Allsopp's in my family tree, and i do know that i have connected my line with the Wragg family.
Eliza Wragg born 1824.
Please feel free to view it in case we have a connection.
Agnes Jane Allsopp was my great grandmother, she married into the Clifford family.
All my Allsopp's have come from Shepshed, Leicestershire.

regards

Val Kingsley

There are only a couple of record books on the city asylum at the Notts Archives that are accessible to the public:

SO/HO/6/2/1/3-6 & 9 Case books (male), 1880-1908 [open to public access]

SO/HO/6/3/1/2-3 Admission and civil registers, 1894-1897, 1906 [open to public access]

I would be grateful If anyone goes there, if they could they please look up patient Mr John Allsop he was there 1901 & 1911

Good morning Alan,I wonder if it would be worth while to send for another of Hannah's children born near to Mary Ann to see what it says about the dad.

Maybe Hannah got in a muddle when asked who her husbands name was.If she was still amrried to John W but living with Henry Hallam maybe it was just a slip of the tongue.

Hi Allan,I can't answer that about Mary Ann and the others being Allsop/hallam Allsop.

Although Hannah would have remained Allsop until her marriege in 1907,so her kids should really be Allsop.
Why John William should be named as father is anyone's guess as Hannah is clearly with Henry Hallam from 1890 onwards.

Maryb.

Most has fallen in place except one bit. I discovered that John William Allsop was a patient at the City Asylum, Porchester Road, Notts he was there in 1901 & 1911 according to Census. Hannah his wife remarries in 1907 to Henry B Hallam. However
Sharon looked on her disc and says that Edith and Thomas Hallam are baptized as Hallam-Allsop from 1891, so I am assuming Hannah and Henry are together from 1891, so this is the bit I dont understand how is Mary Ann registered as Allsop and John and Hannah shown as parents??
The other thing is why did Hannah wait until 1907 to marry Henry Hallam, could it be that she had to wait for a certian period of time from the time that William was presumabily certified before the marriage could be desolved?
Is anyone able to search the records office in Nottinghham for the asylum records for me, as I live in Hampshire?

Regards

Alan

Hannah 1865 New radford.
Henry son 1890 worksop.

1901 Nether hallam Sheffield D43 > 27
164,Whitehouse Lane.
Henry Hallam 1866
Emma says wife 1865 New radford (why Emma I don't know)
Edith 1892
Thomas 1893
Mary ann 1895/6 Worksop
James 1897 worksop
James 1897
Bernard 1899
William one month.

It seems as though Hannah took up with Mr Hallam but didn't get married until 1907.

Maryb

1911 Henry B Hallam and Hannah they are all Hallams including Mary Ann plus 2 more children lilian 1905 and Clarice 1908.
Address 19,Allen Street Worksop. Also there was Albert hallam 1892 who was with the olbury's in 1901.

Says they were married 23 years and 14 children born 5 died.

That would explain the illigitimate son Mary Ann had.

Mary

Mary Report 29 Aug 2010 15:09
