Trying to find Atkinson

I am trying to discover any information about my Great-Great-Grandfather Thomas Atkinson, about whom I know absolutely nothing except that by trade he was a basket-maker. His son, and my GGF was Francis Atkinson, born in 1832 in Tilbury, Essex. In 1853 Francis was, I believe, living and working in Brussels. He was a sawyer/carpenter by trade. He married my Great-Grandmother, Mary Ann Nunney (born 1846 in Holborn, London) in 1877. She was his second wife. Their had 5 children were: Charlotte Annie ; Francis Philip ; Thomas Edward; Millicent and my grandmother Rose (b.1881). Francis died in December 1893. Any information about his Essex origins, or why he was living in Belgium would be much appreciated. Oh, and I expect it's a daft question but, do I have to travel to Essex to check to parish records for Tilbury or are they held elsewhere? |
