For many years now I have always wondered what 'Basnett' meant and where it came from, can anyone tell me?

Hello Sara.
I am a Basnett and I am led to believe that Basnett came from Northern France (poss Normandy). The Basnett's are rumoured to be armourers to the French Army and found themselves here in the UK amongst other places. A Bassinett is a type of helmet.
Though I can't say I'm completely sure, my family seem to be sure this is so.
Hope that helps,
Jennifer
