I'm trying to find out the origin of the last name "Bennett-Wood". I can trace it back to Francis Head b 1875 who married a "Bennett-Wood". |

it would probably help considerably if you named the Bennett-Wood in question, and have you looked for that person in the censuses, for his parents' marriage, etc? |

Not quite sure what you mean - I would think you just want to trace back the Bennett-Wood family? It's just a double-barrelled name. |

is this somewhere other than England/Wales? Freebmd does not show a marriage of a William Head and Ann Margaret Priest |

Do you know all five Bennett-Wood-s in the Australian telephone directory, maybe your siblings, lol? The deaths in Australia were Gladys Miranda Bennett-Wood and George Herbert Bennett-Wood, I expect that Gladys Miranda was his wife and a Bennett-Wood by marriage. |

Here is the marriage you mentioned, it might give a clue to where Sarah Ellis was from |

It could be as the result of an illegitimate birth, to a Miss or Mrs Wood and a Mr Bennett. |

Madmeg - Yes, very true, however I was hoping that it was more along the lines of a very rich, famous person who just couldn't drop her name :) |

Trudianne: WOW - thanks for looking all that up, really appreciate it! Afterthought - so could the "Bennett" bit really be the middle name? Or could it just be an input error. I know that occasionaly various organisations have thought the "Bennett" was my middle name. And why would they suddenly change their name from Wood to Bennett-Wood? Any ideas? |

People did things to make them look posh. So Bennet-Wood was a whole lot posher than Wood. |

Well I really appreciate you looking that up for me, it's all starting to slowly make sense. |
