Hi I am trying to fill in information on the BLANDS in the Ripon, N Yorkshire area I am cobbling my family tree together and have great gaps. My side of the Bland family begins with my father John b 1937(Ripon), his father John/Jack b 1900 (Ripon). Grandfather Richard b 1860 (Bridge Hewick) Gt Grandfather Robert b 1814 (Bridge Hewick) I think the Gt Gt Grandfather MAY have been James. My father was 1 of 13 kids and Ernie the second born had a different surname - Thorpe, his mothers maiden name was Dobson. This is all a bit of a mystery - can anyone help? I hope someone out there can tell me more about the Blands! Debbie (nee Bland)

Hi Debbie,

You may have sorted your tree now as you did post your message in June, but i'm researching a lot round the Ripon area and somebody informed me about Ripon Historical Society and you can purchase Parish registers and all kinds of local documents from them. The lady who informed me about them found lots of information i was looking for. The web address is: www.riponhistoricalsociety.org.uk/publications_micro.htm

Good luck with the research
