I have a Half-Brother in Leicester

Hi there everyone,

My father's name was Fred Linford Bond and he died in 1982 in Leicester at the age of 56.

I have recently been informed by a trusted family friend that I have a paternal half-brother who lives/d in Leicester where my family also used to live.

Apparently this half-brother of mine put out an appeal to find my father and our family as part of a series that Radio Leicester/City Radio did many years ago, but at that time my immediate family was no longer living in Leicester, so I unfortunately never heard it.

Looking into my father's history via the records, it 'appears' that he was married to a lady called Iris E Tookey, the marriage was registered in 1947. Maybe my half-brother came from this marriage? However, it is quite possible that the two things are completely unrelated...

Sadly these are the only things I know, but I would love to find this half-brother, and I hope after all this time he is still interested in finding us.

Any help anyone can offer would be very very gratefully received.

Yours Hopefully,

Claire Bond

Hi Claire,

Perhaps you could ask Radio Leicester to put ou a fresh appeal for you. Telephone number 0116-251 6688 or try Leicester Sound radio 0116-202 0222.

Alternatively you could try a plea in the Leicester Mercury Newspaper on 0116-251 2512

Sorry I can't help more

Hi there,

Thank you Erica, and thank you SO much everyone who has messaged me - you guys are absoloutely amazing!

Some quite significant progress has already been made so far and if it works out, with the other partys' permission, I will keep you updated.... I'm very excited :)

As for the Radio Leicester idea, it's a great one, however...

When I heard about my half-brother and didn't know where to start, I went searching and found a marriage record for my father to Iris. Then a few memories pinged up in my head and some things started to fall into place, which suggested to me that my mother would have known about this all along and decided for whatever reason not to tell me about it.

Thing is, I still have extended family living in Leicester which means a new radio appeal would get back to my mother which I know would be very distressing for her to say the least, so for her sake I am trying to keep this off hers and the family's radar.

Ooh, the drama and intrigue! :)

On a side note about Radio Leicester, I did contact them to see if they had any details of the original appeal on their records, but not only had the presenter retired, but they don't keep records that far back (it was quite some years ago apparently).

So you see, I thought I'd hit a dead end, and you lovely people really have made a huge difference already.

So, thank you again, you folks really live up to the word 'Community' and I am deeply grateful for all your help. Thank you so much :)
