Re Daisy and Bill Burgess - so they were married in 1917 when they lived at Greenwich, yes? When was the oldest of the children born? You have the complete bmd index on ancestry so if you narrow down the time span and then use Daisy as the look up as she has the most unusual name out of the couple - you should be able to find the marriage by going backwards from the oldest kiddie. If Daisy were born 1891 then you can think say 1911 onwards for a likely marriage if you dont know the eldest childs year of birth.
Take it this is her birth, Lewisham being close to Greenwich?

Thats good - I meant it in general, in case anyone else was looking at the thread. No units were used by me on this look up, but Ive used dozens in the past only to find Id duplicated stuff already known :(

Im surprised you didnt find the pension stuff or his birth ref if you have ancestry? You only need enter his name - have you tried your other people in case they come up? And do click on the image and also on "next" because some of them have 20 pages of info.

Sorry Heather didnt mean to cause you any frustration or loss, it was a genuine confusion but you did give me lots of extra info i didnt know about like his pension which is hugely appreciated and Sue from perth found his parents census 1871 which i couldnt find due to a spelling mistake on their pages now i see it posted and their marriage cert.
I am hugely greatful for all the help, time and any units you've all spent on helping me. Sorry for any offence.

Yes i am aware of this entry for brooks although Heather has given me more information than i knew about. I am a member of ancestry but i think when i got to the 1901 census this brooks was married to someone else but since my victor didnt marry my gt gran til 1908 maybe he was married before - which didnt occur to me before - you'd get mind boggled with all the facts.

And here he is with dad William in 1891: Buy the birth cert for him as given above for full details of mums maiden name. £7 GRO online. BUT you must get a sub with ancestry - this is so easily found on there. But you must check all these for yourself.

There is another boy born Islington 1880 Victor A Brooks with a father also called William who is a handyman. But I think the actual birth ref and the army record showing his birth date and his residence as Charlton shows this is your chap. In the 1891 his father is shown as a furniture broker and hire carter which I guess ties in better as a contractor. But get the sub and you have a good look yourself - you can get the free 14 day trial

This isnt a dead end - its brilliantly fruitful! You must get yourself an ancestry sub - this is really simple stuff to find on there and there are pages of info on his pensions: He was 5 ft 7.5" tall by the way - just a snippet for you. He was a mason and the army assigned him to road construction. Take it that ties in with his marriage cert? If not then this may not be your bloke, but too many coincidences for him not to be I think :)

I am trying to find these parts of my family which have me totally stuck:


WILLIAM GEORGE BURGESS(born C.1880) married DAISY EMMA SPARROW(1891-1969). lived in1917 @ 32 jackson st, greenwich. Worked in the greenwich arsenal at that time too. They had irene, phyllis, gordon (who emmigrated in the 50's), ernie who was handicapped by epilepsy. And Connie isabel burgess (my gt gran). I cant find their marriage certificate anywhere. And his name is so common that finding his death cert is impossible without buying them all !

WILLIAM JOHN MORRIS (C.1876) married SARAH DAVIES (C.1876) in pengraig, pontypridd, mid glamorgan. Father was JOHN MORRIS. Her father was BENJAMIN DAVIES and married a Rachel. They had rachel, stephen, william (the two boys emmigrated to usa and canada dont know which is which) phyllis may (my gran) and another girl who died young. They moved to doncaster and ran a hotel 1940-43.

I'm especially interested in Stephen and William Morris. I have a photo of william in a uniform - looks like a boat captian but i have no idea when or where it was taken. Says "love to Sadie." Dont know why the family didnt keep in touch and gran got upset when i asked questions, so i stopped. She's now sadly passed.

Thanks for any help you can give even if its family folklaw as i know nothing else about these relatives and every avenue is blocked without any dates etc.
