A message that I have been emailed.

If you have Anna's marriage certificate, what was her father's name?? (If you don't have the certificate, the info for ordering it has been provided in your thread. She may not have given her (real) father's name when she married but it's worth checking.)

If you could copy and paste the info below to your thread, it would provide some more info that could be useful.

This is the household at the Green Man pub in Eversholt in 1881 -- is it possible that the Annie is your Anna?

Name: Annie N. Harris
Age: 5
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1876
Relation: Daughter
Father's Name: John
Mother's Name: Emily
Gender: Female
Where born: London Minorie, London, Middlesex, England

Civil Parish: Eversholt
County/Island: Bedfordshire
Country: England

Street address: Church End Green Man Inn
Occupation: L V Daur (licensed victualler's daughter)

Registration district: Woburn
Sub registration district: Woburn
ED, institution, or vessel: 4

Ann E. Dyson 59
Annie N. Harris 5
Emily Harris 37
John Harris 44
Mary E. Harris 16

Ah, rats -- that household has returned to London in 1891.

So I searched in 1891 for neighbours of the Green Man who were living there in 1881, and found the Ford household, still living next door to the pub. That gave me the link to the household at the put, once I looked at the census image to see who was there.

The household at the pub in 1891 is:

Name: William Willis Stubbs
Age: 27
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1864
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Adelina Hannah
Gender: Male
Where born: All Saints, Northamptonshire, England

Civil Parish: Eversholt
Ecclesiastical parish: Eversholt
Town: Eversholt
County/Island: Bedfordshire
Country: England

Registration district: Woburn
Sub registration district: Woburn
ED, institution, or vessel: 5

Annie Maria Collins 17
Adelina Hannah Stubbs 31
Gwendoline H M Stubbs 10/12
William Willis Stubbs 27

This is the young general servant (domestic):

Name: Annie Maria Collins
Age: 17
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1874
Relation: Servant
Gender: Female
Where born: Woburn Sands, Bedfordshire, England

This doesn't seem to help much, but it does show who was living at the Green Man in 1881 and 1891, for what that might be worth!

Ah, but wait. The Fords have done us the great favour of still being there in 1901. And in 1901, the household at the Green Man Inn is:

Name: Arthur Wm Shillingford
Age: 34
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1867
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Mary Ann
Gender: Male
Where born: St James Soho, London, England

Civil Parish: Eversholt
Ecclesiastical parish: Eversholt St John the Baptist
Town: Eversholt
County/Island: Bedfordshire
Country: England

Registration district: Ampthill
Sub registration district: Woburn
ED, institution, or vessel: 5
Household schedule number: 52

Arthur Wm Shillingford 34
Ethel Maude Shillingford 1
Mary Ann Shillingford 31

Again -- no trace of your Anna or Nellie (Ellen?).

What you would need to do is find each of those households in the other years maybe, to see whether your girls were with one of them at a time when the household wasn't living in the pub.

Why do you have all those surnames in your title? Where do they fit in?

If you know the approximate date of the murder, you should be able to trace the death certs. which may give more information - the local library may have a newspaper archive.

A marriage certficiate only says where someone was living at the time of the marriage, it doesn't mean they were born there. When was she born and what was her mothers name?

Hi, I've hit a brick wall with this one. The family story goes that my gt gt grandmother Anna Abulia Burdon was orphaned along with her sister nellie after her father william was hanged for the murder of her mother. She was brought up in the green man pub in eversholt, then married a dewberry. Her marriage certificate says she was from Houghton Regis in Beds but there is no trace of this.

Please help!
