Alonzo BURT was a 20 year old collier when he married Elizabeth BIRD in Trevethin, Monmouthshire, Jan 1st 1873. Father's name William (deceased) a miner. Elizabeth was my gt gt aunt (I think!) Her father was John BIRD and they were a Monmouthshire family. No idea where Alonzo came from, but someone suggested he may be aka James BATT. Have tried every permutation andn can't find them on censuses or anything else. He lived until at least the 1940s. He may have had a daughter named Emily. |

This Alonzo Burt may have been the father of my wife's grandfather, John William Burt (1877-1962). There are suggestions in the family that John William was born in Pontefract, but had moved to Bristol by the time he married. |
