Thanks to everyone for their help re: Sarah but I am still struggling to find any trace of her husband, John Brown Calder b1869. I have checked freebmd, military and overseas deaths and census. Could anyone please point me in the right direction??? I really would appreciate the help.

Many thanks.

Hi all, I am trying to find the year of death of Sarah Ann CALDER, (nee Deakin) .
Born c1872 (in ?Stafford) to Thomas Deakin and Martha Simpson

Really struggling to find this family in 1911, a pity as it often gives very useful info. Sarah is married rather than a widow 1901, or so it says anyway!

On freebmd, you only need to put in the name when searching

I can't see them in 1911, either............

At some point I think they moved to Scotland as their daughter Elizabeth had her children, (Margaret and John), in Kirkaldy and their son John, (so many Johns!!), was a Private in the 1/7th Black Watch and was killed in action in France in 1917

Well, you have two options then. Firstly the Scottish 1911 census is out next month. Secondly you can search for death on Scotland's People site (pay per view).

Thanks LindaB for that info.

It looks like she may have died in Scotland, perhaps Kirkaldy??
As the info on her son only has her name on it I wonder if her husband died prior to moving there?

As they don't seem to be on the 1911 census, I can only presume that they moved to Scotland prior to that, with or without John (snr).

Thanks to everyone for all your help....very much appreciated.

You should have said at the start that they moved to Scotland.....you had the info from the son's death.

Apologies to everyone!! I thought I should start a new thread as this was a different person, obviously I know now I was incorrect!

Apologies Flick but I was not aware that Sarah had moved to Scotland, I only knew that her grandchildren were born there, Margaret and John, until I saw the address for Sarah regarding her sons death, and realised it was in Scotland.
