I am Australian and Carolan was my mothers maiden name -I have traced as far back as my great,great grandparents to Tasmania via the Baptism certificate of Hugo Carolan 15 February 1829 Roman Catholic Church Hobart - their names are Patritio & Margarita (nee McMahon) sponsor was Margarita Maher. I still do not know where they came from?

most of the carolans come from co cavan ireland.try the towns of .shercock.cootehill.kingscourt.hope this is of some help to you.joe carolan.england
