Thanks All

On her marriage and her death certificate (which I have from the GRO) she doesn't have a middle name. It is just Florence Chapman.

I am in Ancestry at this time, all of the Florence Chapmans who were born in Sussex from 1887 to 1891 have a middle name.

The PDF/JPEG documents in Ancestry and GR do they have all of the births for that time or are some missing?

Thanks again

Hi Wayne
Thanks for that - because I did state the mothers name - Sarah Jane Percival - and the cert I got said mother was May Lewis. Do I contact the GRO to say I didn't get what I totally asked for?

Apart from that I should say that I have ordered about 9 other certificates from the GRO and they have been correct and send off very quickly - I have been impressed, they are very good. They have been a lot quicker than BDMs in Australia.

Cheers
Beth

Hi Thanks for the info

The witnesses where -
Frederick Farrall and Ellen Wallerson. Florence's occupation was Domestic Servant and her residence at the time of her marriage was 'Kirkallons" Hilbre Road, West Kirby.

Would a person move from Sussex all the way to West Kirby to be a servant? Most of the people I have found in my family tree appear to stay in the same county and often the same town.

Also using the age of 23 when she married on 1/6/1912 it pretty much restricts the years she was born.

Regards
Beth

You do have to order the cert...however when you order the cert you can stipulate who the father and mother must be. That way if it's the wrong one you'll get some of your money back rather than a cert thats no good to you! You can also give them a few names to check while they are looking and it'll only cost you a little bit more.

Can I go to the GRO to check if this is the correct birth cert which would have Joseph Chapman as her father and Sarah Jane Percival as her mother?

Beth..you can't you would have to order the B/C

Hi
I am looking for my Grandmother Florence Chapman. The only information I had is details from her marriage certificate. She was married 1/6/1912 at West Kirby to George Nicholas Cooke (I have all of his details/ancestry back to 1780), it stated she was 23 and her father was John Chapman an Engineer.

I think I have found her in the 1891 Census stating she was born in1889 BUT her father is Joseph Chapman & he was a boat builder but the place she was born Little Lever is a lot closer to Cheshire where she married (In the 1881 Census the surname was spelt wrong "Chapmon"). I figure she was about 4 when her dad died therefore she may not have remembered his name correctly. (There are a lot of suppositions in my search). Her Mum remarried to a Thomas Howard and I have found all of them in the 1901 census.

This is the -
1891 England Census
about Florence Chapmon
Name: Florence Chapmon
Age: 2
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1889
Relation: Daughter
Father's Name: Joseph
Mother's Name: Sarah J
Gender: Female
Where born: Little Lever, Lancashire, England

Civil Parish: Little Lever
Ecclesiastical parish: St Matthew
Town: Bolton
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England

Registration district: Bolton

Household Members: Name Age
Ellen Chapmon 7
Florence Chapmon 2
Joseph Chapmon 34
Richard Chapmon 5
Sarah J Chapmon 35
Richard Percival 34

I am starting to think her birth may not have been registerd as I have checked all of the birth records from 1888 to 1890 and they don't really fit. The birth places are so far away from Cheshire/Lancashire.

I thought I has found her but I got the certificate from the GRO and the parents were different (Harry and May (Jemima May nee Lewis) Chapman).

NOW I have found a Florence CHATMAN

Name: Florence Chatman
Year of Registration: 1889
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Bolton
County: Greater Manchester, Lancashire
Volume: 8c
Page: 506 (click to see others on page)

which seems to match up with the Cenus except the wrong spelling of the name. I really don't want to order that Birth Cert from GRO as it may be the wrong one also therefore -

Can I go to the GRO to check if this is the correct birth cert which would have Joseph Chapman as her father and Sarah Jane Percival as her mother?

Thanks
Beth
