I HAVE A ROBERT CUMBER BORN 1823. ON HIS MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE HE WAS CALLED CUMBERBATCH AND HIS FATHER WAS CUMBERBATCH,BOTH SHOEMAKERS. IN 1844 HE WAS LIVING IN PADDINGTON LONDON. ROBERT GAVE 2 OF HIS CHILDREN THE NAME CUMBERPATCH. BY 1853 HE HAD DROPPED THE BATCH AND PATCH. ON THE 1861 CENSUS ROBERT WAS LIVING WITH HIS WIFE JANE AND STATED THAT HE WAS BORN IN NORTHAMPTON. IT SEEMS MOST CUMBERPATCHES COME FROM NORTHAMPTON. ANYBODY OUT THERE RECOGNISE HIM?

Hi Maureen,

It doesn't specifically address your question of Robert Cumber/Patch, but I do have an Esther Cumberpatch b1803 Moulton Northants who married a Richard Summerley b1801.

I don't have any more detail (yet) on who her parents were but if you do uncover a connection I'd be delighted to hear from you.

Kindest regards,
Kevin
