I need help to sort out the Deversons of Woodnesborough and Sandwich. Thank you to the kind person, name escapes me, who helped me with the 1822 Christening of my Great grandfather's first wife Frances Elizabeth Deverson. I would like to have more of her ancestors on my tree although she died young and is not a blood relative. My G grandfather mentions in his memoirs 'While living with my Uncle Fred, (Frederick McRae Duncan, Chemist of Sandwich) I had pleasing instruction in brewing from my Uncle J. Deverson, who had great trust in my use of the Thermometer - on 'Washing Days!' Thus I may add Brewing to my other experiences!' This was between December 1837 and September 1839 when he left to begin his medical training. In 1871 G grandfather and his second wife had Peter Monti aged 20 living with them. He was described as 'cousin'. In 1846 Peter's father, also Peter, had married Amelia Deverson. Now I ask myself, was he claiming the relationship because of his marriage to Frances Deverson or were they really related from further back. On the old IGI on microfiche, a copy of which I have before me, there is an entry as follows:- Thomas Deverson - relative Emily H Duncan born about 1808 Sandwich. John Hales Duncan was one of G grandfather's uncles. I think I have gone on long enough, If anyone can help I will be very grateful. |

Hello, would really appreciate being part of this little loop. My Grandmother's maiden name was Deverson, and I have Woodnesboro Deverson's (and surrounding area) in my tree - starting with William born around 1809. When I was in England a few years ago, I went to Canterbury Cathedral archives and have a spreadsheet of Deverson info that I found there (not much, but may be useful to someone). |
