I am a South African descendant of the ECKERSLEY clan from LANCASHIRE, now living in England and I am very eager to trace and make contact with ANY DESCENDANTS of my ancestors in the wider Manchester area. My info starts with my Great-great grandfather - GEORGE ECKERSLEY born 1793 in Lancashire. Married SUSANNAH born 1806 In the 1841 Census, their children were:- JOHN 16, ANN 14 WILLIAM 13, ELIZABETH 10, HENRY 8, THOMAS 5, MARY 2. In the 1851 Census, two more children:- GEORGE 6 and FANNY 5. In the 1851 census, Susannah (widowed in 1848) was living with six children at 11 Teales Building, Greengate, Salford. ................... Eldest son JOHN ECKERSLEY born 1825 in Lancashire. Married ANN THOMAS on 19th March,1848 in Manchester Cathedral. In the next year, JOHN and ANN with baby MARTHA sailed on The King William on 20th October 1849 from London/Plymouth for Durban, Port Natal, South Africa.
