Hi

Now know for sure that I had the wrong death of Ada Rutter - she actually died in 1927 and shortly afterwards, her widow- Walter J. Mann married my gran Annie Kilby nee Fowkes I know they already had a daughter together in 1922 - Irene - my mum who passed in 1977.
Can anyone find out, did they have any other children together ??? say from 1918-1935 ish??

Thanks Steph for the info on Colins birth.
Amongst other things, I am trying to find living decendents of Walters so any further info again, much appreciated.

You asked about the 3 marriages:

I know that Walter marries Ada Rutter in 1899 and has a son Ernest in 1900. I also know that they have a daughter, Elsie in aug 1911.- all in Leicester. - these are facts. I don't know about any other children-yet, but I am sure that there will be some.

I also know that Walter marries Annie Kilby nee Fowkes in 1927, after they had a daughter together, Irene, in 1922. - these are also facts. - again I don't know about other children, but don't believe that there will be - (this is Annies 2nd marriage and 5 yrs after the birth of their daughter she was born in 1892, this makes her 35yrs old.& Walter 47ish. However, never discount anything - they may have had more children & I would like to know for sure as Walter & Annie were my grandparents! - their daughter Irene was my mum - she passed in 1977. Mum never mentioned other brothers & sisters - other than my Uncle Len Kilby b1911, by my grans 1st husband. - another story, which we will talk about later!

Now then... Walter appears to marry an Eliza Draper in 1912 . I know..I know... you are right with thinking, I must get this marriage cert. but if I can avoid it just at this moment, I will. I am convinced that I can find out more about Eliza and her marriage to Walter or anyone else by a process of elimination of facts and a careful eye ...such as discovering that my Walter Mann is always seen as Walter J Mann. I know there was also a Walter Joseph Mann around, but perhaps he always uses the middle name Joseph and not simply a 'J'. as my Walter does.

Hope this wasn't too rambling.......my children will tell you that I can take a week to answer a simple question ..in other words, I go on too much!!!!!!

thanks for your help
kind regards

Hi Gillian,

Didn't mean you had too many threads. Just that you've got a lot. You're obviously having a great time researching.

Glad you've got a lot of information, have you sorted out the '3 possiblge marriages' of Walter yet?

Hi again Steph

Yes I know, you are right I do have too many threads.

I only started tracing my family 3 weeks ago and have found it so exciting as I have been very lucky with people like yourself & "dorsetbaby" helping me a lot- thanks folks! - everything seems to be fast moving. I truely cant believe the amount of info that I have found out.

But, I am still not too sure how to use this site. I open another thread each time I want to find info on a 'new' family member.
Is this the correct thing to do??

Also, I notice that people often simply put the word 'nudge' on a board, but how does everyone know from that, what these people are looking for??? I dont think I really understand how it all works.

I am grateful for everyones help though as I am much nearer to uncovering the mystery of my mums siblings and also in finding out about living relatives

Hi
Just "had a look back to yesterday" and found your reply of a pos 1920 baby born in Islington to Walter Mann & Eliza Draper of Leicester.
I am currently looking into finding their children, who I expect to be found born in Leicester in Leicester between 1912 - 1922.

But here on this thread, I was really looking to find the children of Walter Mann and his first wife Ada's - daughter -Elsie.

As quite often is the case, families get a bit tangled up - this one sees Walter apparantly marrying 3 times- all in Leicester.

Thanks for your help.
kind regards
Gill

Hi

I'm sorry - I dint see that reply (?) ...where did you post it too?

Can you cut & paste it & send it to me again please as I am keen to know the details of the child born in 1920.
Many thanks & sorry again for the confusion
kind regards

Ethel
Thank you so much for your help. Yes, I do now have the history details of Wlter Mann & Ada Rutter. I will have to wait for the 1911 census to be published to find out more !!!!!!!!!!

I have an intreague - I know that later on (in 1927) Walter marries Annie Kilby (nee Fowkes) & they have a daughter together , Irene in 1922 (prior to their marriage) Irene was my mum, she passed in 1977 - these are known facts - However,
It would appear that Walter married again in 1912 in Leicester to Eliza Draper and I cant find out anything much about her or whether they had children etc - any ideas where to look???
I really want to know as much as pos about my grandad, Wlter Mann & his families.
Many thanks again for your help.
kind regards

Hi Gillian.
Did I do you a search on this family before. I have had another look and lots of the details seem familiar. I have found them again back to the 1861 census. Do you have this.

Walter James Mann married Ada Rutter. 1899 July/Sept, Qtr. reg in Leicester.vol 7a 571

Re siblings for Elsie and Ernest.
Up to 1911 the index does not show what the maiden name of Mother was, and after that date the only one I can find is Elsie A 1911 July.Sept. Qtr. reg in Leicester. vol 7a 427.
Ernest Thomas. 1900 July.Sept. Qtr. reg in Leicester. vol 7a 200.

They are on the 1901 census, although the official site has got Walters name wrong and indexed him as William J instead of Walter J, but have looked at the census form and it is clearly Walter J.

The next census will be out c 2009/10
This should show if more children were born. It would be unusual if there were no births between 1899 and 1911.

Hope this is of help. If you do not have the ancestry let me know. Ethel.

Any decendents of Elsie A Mann b 1911 Leicester?

Her father was Walter Mann and Mother Ada Rutter - I know that Elsie had at least one brother, Ernest b1900.

Can anyone find any other siblings?
