Find Ancestors

Can anyone help at all please? I have managed to find and obtain the birth and marraige certificate for my relative.
I have also located him on the 1901 census, but cannot find him anywhere previously either england or wales! have searched using his childrens names, his wifes name - nothing!!
he was married (walton on the hill, liverpool) in 1886 to margaret ann humphreys (born-toxteth park, liverpool)

thanks for this, however her maiden name was owen and she was born about 1837, so doesn't look like her. thanks again. Louise

thanks the 1911 cenus match is a def, however it's the earlier stuff i am having difficulty with. cannot find hugh on english or wales census until 1901. nothing from birth date onwards. have tried searching using his parents names but still nothing!! have located his mother pre marriage to his father but....!

thanks for your help, however this is not the family.
hugh was born 15/7/1861 in amlwch. his parent are joseph and ellen evans nee owen.
he married margaret ann humphreys in 1886 and had 9 or 10 children - one of which was my grandmother.

What makes you think that the 1871 return for Ellen 1823 Elizabeth 1857 and Hugh 1862 living in Almwch are not your family?

Ellen also listed as Mariners wife, Joseph was a mariner.

There is only one result for a Hugh Evans living with Ellen Evans

I was wondering why the 1871 I posted isn't the right one,it seems right to me.

Thanks again Ann, the reason for not thinking they are my family is that the information I hold for Ellen has her birth date at c1837 and this is a large variation of almost 15 years. I know it quite usual for these to be varied but this is lot - don't you think?

It is the birthdate of Ellen, the info I have is circa 1837 - quite a difference.
I have also tried searching marraige records for both of their names but so far have not come up with a match on record details. Lots of marriages for their individual names, but no records coincide. Perhaps my info was wrong regarding birhdate and I should re-search marriage records at a much earlier date.

Well, using this 1891 census info I went back to Ancestry and typed in the info using margaret as the search, giving birthdate, then place and quoting williams name as son - still not got a match!!! This is def a match though as all the names and ages are correct.
