I am trying to find my great grandmother Mary Adelaide Gearing. She was born about 1871 (her birthday was 26 July), and was married at Southwark St Saviours 25 December 1894 to Thomas Joseph Dickeson (I have the ORIGINAL 111 year old certificate!). On the certificate, her father is given as John Gearing (decd) occ. painter.
I would appreciate any info prior to her marriage, I can't seem to find her in the censuses or in the GRO birth index. in 1901 census she claimed to have been born in southwark st saviours
there is a story in the family that john gearing was not her 'real' father, but not sure what that means - she could have been his step or foster child, or have been brought up by someone else, I really have no idea.
