My husband's grandfather was called Mendel and he came to Carmarthen early last century. from Russia. He had a brother in Scotland who became quite wealthy , owning a chain of shops. . He married Selina and they had 8 sons , Mayer, Kirschnel., Baron, Reuben, Raphael, Gerald, Yeudel and Rufus. Selina died after having a daughter and the family broke up in poverty. Several brothers migrated to London whilst Raphael and Mayer made their homes in Wales.Yeudel died early through an accident he had whilst strapped into a piano accordeon where he fell down some stairs. Mendel was quite successful in the pawnbroking business in his heyday and died in a nursing home. I would be delighted to hear from anyone that has information about this family Joan |
