Can't find death for Mary Haggerty. Maiden name O'Hare 1st husband Francis McCarten. 2nd husband Edward Haggerty they married in 1900 in Glasgow. On 1901 census states he's a Fireman from Ireland living 74 Clyde Street, Glasgow. Can't find a death for Edward, Mary or Francis. Can anyone help? Names can be spelled McCartan and Haggarty

Have you looked on Scotlands People.its pay to view but reasonably priced at 30units for £6. coats 1unit to view and 5 to download the early certs. Later certs have to ordered through them at £10 each

Hi Shirley, Yes I use Scotlands People all the time also Ancestry.com . Just can't find her death or Edwards death and her 1st husband Francis McCarten was on 1891 census but not on 1901 census. No death for him either.

Can you give dates for her marriages please?

Sometimes when searching on Scotlandspeople you can put in to much information. For example the information (and spellings) on a death certificate are only as good as the informant's knowledge.

Can you give us the birth year and place for Mary please?

I only know she was born circa 1849 in Ireland. Sorry that's all I have from the census information They could have went back to Ireland after her 2nd Marriage which was in Glasgow 1900 to Edward Haggerty.
On 1901 Census Mary was married to Edward Haggarty (a fireman) living at 74 Clyde Street, Anderston with her daughter Alice McCarty (should be McCarten).
She must have lived in England at one point because her daughter Mary C. McCarten was born there abt 1868 to her 1st husband Francis McCarten. Does this help

Isobel Report 4 Nov 2010 16:09

I don't have a date for her first marriage to Francis McCarten who was Irish (so possibly an Irish marriage) but their first child Mary C. McCarten was born around 1868 in England.

Have you found any of her children in Scotland after 1901 please? For example, is there any trace of Alice in Scotland later?

Have you looked at the Poor Relief in the Mitchell Library to see if Mary claimed after Francis died?

Isobel

Isobel Report 4 Nov 2010 18:48

Yes know all about Alice. My mum's cousin married her son. It was through his marriage certificate that I knew about Alice & I traced it back.

Mary(Alice's mother)'s first husband Francis Mccarten was on the 1891 Census but had disappeared by 1901. Mary had remarried in 1900 so I don't know in the 9 year gap if she applied for poor relief. Still trying to find what happened to the other children Mary & Francis had together.

Hi Catherine, Yes they werein Clyde Street, but Ancestry shows their names as McArthur??? It is the correct family just the wrong name. I know this because Francis mother in law in living with them Ann O Hair? (should be O Hare) because that is Mary's maiden name. I'm having a nightmare trying to find their children except for Alice.
