My grandfather (from Warwickshire, UK) fought in WW1 and didn't return. He's not listed by the War Graves Commission. We don't know what regiment he fought in. My grandmother (and others) never spoke of his war record but we know she was not awarded a pension or other recognition. We have no photos or other records of him other than his marriage certificate (Coventry), though we have traced his birth (Henley-in-Arden, 1883) and career before marriage (butcher and carpenter, Sparkhill, Worcs, 1901) from census records, etc. His first names were Leonard Samuel - but he could have enlisted as Len, or Sam. There seems to be no internet listing of deserters. Searches at Kew have led nowhere. Any ideas, anyone, please?
