Hi wondered if anyone can help me i'm looking for information about my grandad his name was john hiley born around 1914 not sure where he was born it could be in the wakefield area west yorks he sadly died in 1994 in london i did'nt get to see him that much as i lived quite a long way from him, i would really appreciate it if anyone could find out who his parents were or any siblings thankyou linda

Linda, you need to find his marriage cert so you can establish his father's name. It should then be possible to look for his parents' marriage.
Have you names of any of his siblings?

hi jane just been looking in a baby book that i forgot i had and it says that my grandads mother is called mary elizabeth and his father is called frank the surname done is mentioned but if its done why would my grandad be called hiley i'm confused ! linda

I can't see a corresponding birth for your grandfather though. Are you certain this birth book is his?

thanks for your help i know grandad was married twice firstly to my grandma annie walley they got divorced and he married a lady called evelynn who he had 2 children with he had 1 child with annie ( my mum angela ) not sure if that helps linda

You are correct, according to the death entry he was born 1914, but not sure we can go any further with this given what info you have.
The details of who he married do not help unless as I say you get one of the marriage certs.

Are you sure that your mother Angela didn't have 2 brothers Linda?
Your mother appears to have been born in Hemsworth, where Annie and John married, but there are two male Hiley births with mmn as Whalley later, both born in Wakefield. I can't put their names up here as they could easily still be alive.
