Howdy!..
Please could someone look up a John Hodges in the 1861 Census?. I believe he may of married in Portsea sometime in the early 1850's.
Possible daughter Elizabeth Emma Hodges born 1858 Portsea.
Also so possbile son John born 1856 Portsea. Maybe others.
There are a number of marriages around this time for a John Hodges in Portsea..but I can't figure which one is the one im after.
Wifes name maybe Ann....but there are a couple of those.
So the only way to find which one im after is one who has a daughter named Elizabeth born 1858

Births Mar 1858
Hodges Elizabeth Emma Portsea 2b 346

I believe Elizabeth is my Grt Grandmother on my fathers side.

This should give me the one I'm looking for.

Cheers in Adavance! :)

Paul

Hi Julie, thanks for repling.

I got Elizabeths name form her sons birth cert.
I don't recall how I came by her fathers name.

I have lots of info in files, but not sure where it all came from. Not sure even how I know she had a brother John!

But, I know she married a James William Johnston in 1878.
Hence how i know how old she is and where born.

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 26 Sep 2008 11:05

I had a feeling her mothers name was Ann..possible Hardman..or Hardiman...but again there are a number of John Hodges who married women with the forename Ann...So I wasn't sure which one it was.
Unless the others have children named Elizabeth and John..then Im in a pickle...lol :)

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 26 Sep 2008 11:11

So was after a marriage where there was a child named Elizabeth who was born 1858..soooo
1861 she would be 3.
i knew where she was born Portsea...so its a case of cros matching names dates and places to find who, where, etc.
I knew( dont know how) she had a brother John.. Born 2 years ealier in Portsea....So assumed the marriage was in Portsea around early 1850's, fathers surname Hodges..So cross referenced with those marriages around that time in Portsea where the fathers surname was Hodges. And there was..but a few with the name John...so..as sons ( borthers) name was John..then John Hogdes maybe her father. so....etc etc. Just some common sence and cross referenceing. Works rather well. But I do have some actual facts mixed in :)

looking I see the name George there also..GREAT!..i had also a feeling there was a George also..I believe maybe Johns brother.! ( her fathers)..born 1818?
So good chance her grandfathers name maybe George!..good stuff!.. :) All coming together!.

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 26 Sep 2008 11:21

Yes!..that makes the George birth 1818!...as it says he's 43....wow!..lol... :) All my time cross referencing seems to work well...lol..it certainly confirms my thoughts. :)

I think you'll be best to get Elizabeth's B/C for Mums maiden name, as i was trying to cross ref so bits but nothing is jumping out

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 26 Sep 2008 11:28

This is the other possbile

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY

CRIPES_A_MIGHTY Report 26 Sep 2008 11:31

But if they dont have a daughter name Elizabeth born 1858..then the other is correct!.. :)

Julie

Julie Report 26 Sep 2008 11:32

God this is confusing lol

Now when i click on the image on ancestry for Ann Hardman she wasn't there

So i look in the qtrs an she is Ann Hardiman

If this one doesnt have a daugther named Elizabeth born 1858....then the other is correct!
