I am looking for possible relations in Cockermouth, Cumberland. My Grandparents were both born there. Charles Holland b.17th March 1895 although his birth cert shows that his mother (Ellen Jane Holland nee Porter) was deceased at the time his birth was registered. I have obtained her death cert and she died a week after he was born from 'Nephritis (puerperal) Exhaustion' which I can only assume was a difficult birth. His father was William John Holland of 75 Collins Terrace Ellenborough. My Grandmother was Margaret Jane Porter b.6th April 1890. Her mother was also Margaret Jane Porter nee Savage and her father was Richard Henry Porter of Crosby Villa Crosscanonby. Informant on her birth cert was Elizabeth Porter possible mother in law. I would also like to know why the name Porter appears on both sides. Are they possible distant relations or is/was Porter a common name in that area at the time or still is. Any info would be helpful. Regards Sue |
