Am trying to find details of William Alfred Jacobs, born on Isle of Wight in 1861 (possibly 1864/5) - more specifically info on his parents. According to my records, his father disappeared, leaving his family on the Isle of Wight. William Alfred married Elizabeth Ann Gates (died 1917) in Port Elizabeth, South Africa . They had 4 children: Mildred, Edith Alice, Arthur Lacey and William John. Before marraige, he worked as a pastry chef on the Union Castle Lines. His mother was a stewardess for Union Castle - I have no idea what became of her. It is very possible that they changed their surname from Jaques to Jacobs. I would be most grateful if you could help me. |
