hi all i need a little help finding the right info on Thomas james born about 1819, farmer by proffession.He died aug 1888 in undy monmouthshire. some of his children were born in christchurch monmouthshire/undy. He married Sarah, who came from llanvair, i have not been able to find her nee name.
In 1901 census his son John is living in the family home of moorgate farm undy with his mother (a widow) aged 81. As you can imagine there are lots of thomas james around and in this area. any information regarding date of birth for both and parentsof thomas would begreat.

Could you possibly give us the names and years of birth for any more of the children?

As you say, it's not an uncommon name so anything that helps narrow it down would help.

Ok one of his sons was John James born1870 (sorry no bcert) born christchurch (from 1901 census) John married ruth roach 22 aug 1911.

Sarah James (thomas wife) died in 1929

from what i can work out, they had the following children, but going on what i know of the james family they bred well in those days lol.
1856 elizabeth anne (born undy)
1856 james
1859 sarah jane 1860 annie born in christchurch

atm i have 8 possible children, of thomas and sarah James undy

Wow - Sarah was 109 when she died?

We've got a bit more to go on now!

mmm will just try and check the date on sarahs death perhaps 1929 was wrong lol

although my g grandfather john wasborn 1870 perhaps there are more johns born tothem?

Sarah, it's odd because in 1871 this family still have their son John as born in 1858. If this was your g-grandfather's family then those dates just don't tie up.

I don't think they would have called another son John when they already still had a John alive?

How sure are you of John's year of birth being 1870?

There is also another family with very similar names at Bridge End Farm in Undy.

hahah welcome to my family, they are def from moorgate farm undy, prob is this family as others tend to use the same name and hand it down, and like i said they multiplied really well. the dates i have for the marriage is from the parish records same with the birthdates, but like you i am more confused than when i started.

i know its def moorgate as family are still there.

tbh your information looks promising as it is the family home. john james married ruth roach in undy 22 aug 1911 father thomas james in 1911 census it shows them both living at moorgate with his mother sarah and 2 sisters by this time sarah is a widow

Aha - I wonder if your John is the son of the Thomas who was born in 1848, not the one born in 1819?

possibly, probably me being a total newbie at this, plus all these james with the same names makes ur head spin lol

Having looked through all the other census his age seems to vary quite a lot - the 1891 has him born 1864! It also has a wife Annie, even though he's single (think this may have been a sister?)

yeah i think annie def sister as in the 1911 census she is a widow, so she obv married a thomas at some point.

Hi all I have become stuck once again, Thomas james born 1818c, on census's he is recorded as being born in whitchurch herefordshire and gararew herefordshire, but cannot seem to locate proof of this. He married Sarah ? from Llanvair and the only record I can find of a Thomas James marrying a sarah is

8 may 1844 Thomas James Farmer kerneys Inferior father Richard James Labr to Sarah Stephens of Llanvair father John Stephens.

This is ony a loose connection but in 1911 Sarah James born llanvair was living with her family and a cousin of her son John (who was head of household)

So is this the same thomas or just a coincidence?
any thoughts ideas or information would be a great help
